“It is scary, because you feel vulnerable. That is what I meant when I said, ‘Trust me’because I want to know the real you.”

“Trust is not something you just suddenly do…”

“No, it takes time – doesn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“And time is something we don’t have much of right now,” he admitted softly. “So, maybe we just start our marriage getting to know each other and then share little tidbits about ourselves over the next few months until I come back. I’ll try to call once a week and we can discuss one item openly together. Does that sound good?”

“I like that idea.”

“You pick a topic one week – and then I’ll pick one. Agreed?”

“Yes.”

“Now, get some rest,” he said softly. “I’ll make us some coffee in the morning.”

“Wake me and I’ll make pancakes or something.”

“You’re on… wife,” he said softly, leaning forward to kiss the back of her neck once more – and was inordinately pleased that she didn’t tense up like she had before. “Goodnight, Destiny – and sweet dreams.”

“Goodnight, Killian,” she whispered. “You, too.”

* * *

Early the next morning,Killian awoke slowly, feeling something exceedingly warm at his side and felt pressure on his leg, as if it was pinned. Opening his eyes slowly, he realized that he wasn’t in the barracks… and the guys weren’t playing a joke on him.

Destiny had flung herself across him at some point during the night. She was sprawled along his side, her leg over his, and softly snoring on his chest. She was still enveloped in that ratty, threadbare, terry cloth robe that was acting as a thermal blanket at his side, nearly laughing in disbelief and wonder.

Wasn’t she overheated in that thing?

And apparently his ‘shy bride’ wasn’t so shy when she slept. Her leg was hooked over his, her knee hiked up inappropriately and very close to his hips, causing her robe to slip upwards revealing quite a bit of leg.

He could have extracted himself…

He could have gotten up to make the coffee as he’d promised last night…

Instead, he took his free arm, and tucked it behind his head, closing his eyes and savoring the feeling of just being held close to someone. He had slept so deeply last night that he didn’t even remember dreaming, but waking up like this? It was unexpectedly wonderful – and he wanted to enjoy every second while it lasted.

… It would be over much too quickly,he thought grimly.

He needed to get back to Flyboys before someone started snooping around or asking questions – and pack his bag. So far Paradox had acted oblivious, but he was pretty sure the man had made his own plans for yesterday… because he was getting up when Killian left.

That robe was going to be the first thing he surprised her with. That thing was like hugging the world’s roughest towel, and he knew he would have an imprint against his skin.

No, he wanted to get her something special, something luxurious… maybe silk? Or velvet? Something where she would feel feminine, pampered, and lovely – and could wear it in bed if this continued on for months.

Killian had been shocked when Destiny agreed to sleep naked when he was home, because he had no intention of ever enforcing it – and the little bundle of fabric and limbs, snuggled up at his side, was proof of that.

He slowly pulled his wrist from behind his head and glanced at his watch – eyes widening in shock. Did Destiny work this evening? He never slept this late!

It was nearly noon…

“Heyyy little bunny,” he whispered softly, not wanting to disturb her and wished he had his cell phone so he could take a photo of the two of them, together. “Do you work today?”

“Yeah,” she said sleepily – and tensed physically against him, before quickly rolling away, shooting out of bed into a standing position, and weaving…

“Whoa…” he urged, moving lightning fast to steady her. “You stood up too fast. Sit down,” he ordered.
