“I work from one until…”

“Uh oh,” he grimaced. “Rain check on the breakfast – okay?”

“What time is it?”

“Nearly noon.”

“WHAT?” she yelped in shock, jumping up again – only to sit back down.

“Are you alright?” he said in concern.

“Yeah,” she hesitated and glanced at him. “Anemia. I take iron tablets for it. I’ve got a prescription – except it’s not covered by insurance because it’s a vitamin. You know you are supposed to take that with orange juice?”

“Are you taking them?”

“Yes – but not with the orange juice. You know how expensive that stuff is?” she balked. “I’ve got to get ready for work. I have to leave in twenty minutes.”

“Destiny,” Killian stopped her – pulling her back down to sit beside him on the bed. “Jerk warning…” he smiled tightly and was surprised when she laughed nervously.

“Is that the callout before you say something I’m not going to like?”

“Maybe,” he hedged. “No more of this putting yourself on the back burner, okay? If you are going to be married to me and we are talking about having children – you are going to have to take care of yourself, because it will affect development. I’m going to get some things before I leave…”

“Again?”

“Groceries,” he said flatly. “And one of them is going to be a big jug of orange juice, some steak, baked potatoes, and spinach…”

“I hate spinach,” she grimaced. “Is this up for negotiation?”

“No spinach in lieu of a single kiss goodbye?” he teased… and caught his breath as she hesitated, looking at his lips for a split second, before meeting his gaze again.

“Killian…”

“I won’t be here when you get home,” he volunteered the information in a hushed whisper. “I’ve got to pack my things and leave for Afghanistan early in the morning. I guess it would be a way of saying ‘goodbye’… wouldn’t it?”

He expected her to still say no, to draw away from him since she was going to need to leave very soon for work, but instead?

She did the unthinkable.

Destiny put her hand on his shoulder awkwardly, and leaned forward slowly towards him.

“You must really hate spinach…” he breathed tightly – and saw her nervous smile.

“I do… and I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“Take your time. There is nothing you are going to do wrong. I promise,” he said hoarsely, his voice exceedingly gentle trying to keep his timid little bunny from running away.

She got a little closer and he fought the urge to smile as the tip of her nose actually wiggled slightly, just like a bunny, and came so close to his lips. Part of him was afraid one or both would have foul morning breath, but there was no way he was pulling back from this moment.

He would take his chances.

The faint brush of her lips against his caused a slight shiver to race down his spine while her hand slipped upwards from his shoulder towards his neck, making him melt under her timid ministrations.

He’d never had a woman kiss him before… usually he was the one doing the kissing – and this was heavenly, he mused, and waited for more, hoping that wasn’t it.

Just as he was about to open his eyes or question her, she kissed him once more and this time there was no mistaking it. Her other hand showed up out of nowhere and now both were on either side of his face, pulling him to her… and he was more than willing. She was kissing him, taking hold of him, needing more – and his restraint broke.

Killian slanted his lips over hers, taking control, and kissed her deeply. There was something about the way that her lips just fit his, her taste was exquisite, and he was hopelessly addicted to the woman before him… whom he’d married and skipped their wedding night – for both their sakes.
