“I love you too,” she replied, getting to her feet. “Cake… then dancing.”

Dixie walked over with a six-inch round cake that was decorated beautifully with all sorts of piped roses, swirls, and décor all over it. As she stood, Delilah moved to take photos of both Destiny and Everly, both standing there pregnant… along with a photo of both families.

Everly sat down beside them, Maestro at her side, holding Caleb in his lap and smiling at them… and Destiny realized it was their time, their moment. She turned to Killian, looking at him.

“Are you ready?”

“Are you?”

“Oh gosh yes,” she admitted. “I was trying to be strong and stoic – but I almost asked Dr. Bow to tell me on my last visit.”

He burst out laughing, pulling her into his arms and kissing her quickly, before handing her a very long cake knife. Looking at her, he smiled.

“Are you sure?”

“I don’t know,” Destiny said, chuckling nervously. “My hand is shaking.”

“I can tell…”

“Should we wait?”

“Do you want to?”

“No…”

“OH, FOR PETE’S SAKE… JUST CUT THE CAKE,” Thumper hollered out – causing everyone to look at the normally quiet man in shock… except Harley, his wife, who promptly burst out laughing.

“What? Why are you all looking at me like that? I love having a daughter, and I want to know if she’s going to have another little princess to have playdates with.”

Alpo leaned forward, grinning.

“You are cut off, buddy… no more caffeine for you today.”

Thumper pulled the man in a headlock, hugging him – and everyone laughed, knowing the duo were thick as thieves. They had known each other since childhood, gone to the Academy together, and were each other’s wingmen while stationed in Ghazni… and now family.

Harley, Thumper’s wife, was Alpo’s twin sister.

Destiny pressed down on the cake knife slightly – and Killian, whose hand rested on hers – helped press it down as he leaned forward, kissing her on the cheek.

“Close your eyes and let’s look together,” he whispered.

“Okay…”

He lifted their hands, moved it slightly to the side and she went with the motion blindly, as they pressed slowly. The cut was made. There would be no unseeing the color inside the cake once they withdrew the knife or moved to remove the slice.

Destiny looked up at Killian as she opened her eyes.

“Are you ready?”

“I’m ready for everything with you,” he said lovingly, “Another chapter in our story begins today.”

“Let it begin,” she whispered, and turned back to the cake, lifting the slice with him… and turning to smile at him.

Pink.

They heard cheering all around them, Thumper’s boisterous ‘YES!’, as she turned into Killian’s arms, hugging him close and kissing him briefly. He pressed his forehead to hers, their noses touching, his voice thick with emotion.

“I knew it…”
