“We’re back to last namesalready?”

“Can’t go back to something we neverleft.”

The warmth of Dax’s hand filled hers once more as he threaded their fingers together and pulled her to a stop. She turned to face him and found herself nose to nose with the most infuriating man she’d ever met. A man who could stop her heart and make it beat again all in the samebreath.

“Let me be clear,Red. I’m not taking no for an answer.” His free hand gripped her other arm when she tried to free herself from his firm hold. “Pick wherever you want to go: Belize, Thailand, Peru, California, Alaska—no, please don’t pick Alaska— but anywhere else is fair game. You name it and we’ll go, but I need you to understand. You are leaving Bostontonight.”

“With you?” He’d gone completely off the farm. It was the only explanation. “I don’t thinkso.”

“I don’t trust anyone else to protect you,” he declared. His eyes flared with a radiant heat that licked at her insides like an out of control flame. Rebecca was suddenly aware of his possessive stance, how close he held her, and every point at which their bodies pressed together. What was he doing toher?

“I don’t trust you,” she said, her hot breath mingling with his in the cold winter air. She hadn’t trusted anyone with that much of herself since her brother died. She didn’t plan to start believing in anyone any time soon, especially not Keller. He scrambled her already confusing thoughts and made her want things she knew he couldn’t giveher.

“Trust this,” he whispered, his breath teasing her lips, preparing them for histouch.

A raw ache flared in Rebecca’s core, fluttering from her chest, down to her stomach and flaring to life between her thighs as he pressed his mouth to hers. A hungry groan hummed from Dax’s chest. He slid his hands from her arms and cradled her neck, his grip firm as his tongue traced her lips. Spurred by a desire as arousing as it was shocking, Rebecca slid her tongue alongside his, angling her mouth, inviting him to deepen the kiss. Her chest heaved with a sharply drawn breath as the slick warmth of his tongue tangled confidently with hers before he pulled back and then plunged deep inside again. Drawing her closer, she melted against his hard, warm frame, clutching his coat in a desperate grip as she chased her need to feel himagain.

This was nothing like the single kiss they shared in Navi. She’d been caught so off guard that the sensual assault had ended before she knew what hit her. Then they were back in the States and everything went horribly wrong and why was he kissing her like thisnow?

“Dax,” she whispered against his lips. The single word fueled the flames between them and he deepened the kiss once more until they were both breathless and trembling when he pulledaway.

“Christ, Red,” Dax panted, his forehead falling against hers, his arms still clutching her against his trembling frame. His tongue darted out and he licked his lips before pressing them together in a pained smile. “Pick Alaska if you want. I don’t care. As long as I get to kiss you like that, I won’t even notice how damn cold itis.”
