I nodded. Her security clearance was higher? I didn’t know much about it, but how was it possible?

“Wren is one of the world’s most renowned superspies,” Kima explained.

Wren didn’t dispute what Kima had said. In fact, it was almost as though she hadn’t heard it.

“Got it,” she said. “Now, I need a damned printer.”

“There’s one in the main house. Hanadarko and Mayhem also have one.”

“Their place is closer, and there are less people there using it. Come on. It’ll give you the chance to meet her. Millie too. Oh, and Mayhem.”

“Hey, y’all. Wanna come in?”asked the woman I assumed was Hanadarko when she opened the door of a cottage not far from Wren’s. “You must be Bexli.”

“I am,” I said, shaking her outstretched hand.

“I need to print somethin’.” Wren set her laptop on the dining table and opened it.

Hanadarko picked up the paper the printer spit out. “What’s this?”

“Bexli is going to take the MI5 admissions exam.”

Her eyes opened wide at Wren’s response, and she turned to me. “Really?”

I nodded, wondering if she thought I’d lost my mind.

“Cool! Are y’all helping her study?”

“Yes, ma’am,” said Wren.

“Can I play?”

I laughed at the way she’d phrased it.

“Of course, you can,” said Wren.

A door opened, and a large dog came bounding out.

“Come on, Mil. You can play too. Y’all wanna stay here?”

“Let’s go up to my place. There’s more room to spread out,” Wren suggested.

“Meet ya there after I give Miss Milagro a potty break.”

When Wren nodded, Kima and I followed her out. “I should’ve asked if you’re okay with dogs.”

“As long as they’re not chasing after me, I am.”

Wren’s eyes softened. “I’m sorry for what you went through.”

“It’s not your fault.” I thought it over for a minute. “It’s mine for believing someone actually meant to help me become a model.Sonaive.”

“Nope, none of that now. This was not your fault. While it’ll be hard for you to trust people now, know you can. Delfino, Hanadarko, and me, for example.”

Kima looked up from her phone at the mention of her code name.

“All right, start talkin’. What’s goin’ on?”

“Poseidon has gone dark.”
