She smiled. “Stay right where you are.”

“We fell asleep without much talking last night,” I said.

Wren sent the tea in front of me. “Cayman and I were just about to review the briefs Nem’s been sending.”

I stood and sat in the chair beside him. “As I said last night, I have so many questions. I suppose the first should be whether you believe I’m still in danger.”

“I thought about your question a great deal on the plane ride from Malta. Honestly, I do not. Given we still have no leads on Pharaoh’s identity, nor do we know who else he may have been working with, it’s illogical to think anyone would risk revealing themselves by coming after you or any of the other women who were rescued from Mithras’ villa.”

“I agree with his assessment. No offense to you or the others, but it’s unlikely they’d risk trying to abduct you or them a second time.”

“Precisely,” Cay said. “However, I do have a backup plan if you feel at all uncomfortable remaining in the UK.”

Not remain in the UK? I had an interview scheduled next week with Mr. Fulton from MI5. “What is it?” I asked.

“We could visit the island. I’ve already spoken with my parents about doing so.”

“Oh, um, when would we leave?”

“If it’s what you want to do, we can leave whenever you’d like. However, if it isn’t what you want to do, we won’t.”

I looked at Wren. “My interview is still on with MI5, right?”

“I don’t know why it wouldn’t be, but we can confirm,” she responded. “In fact, I’ll do that now.”

When she left the room, I said, “If that’s the case, I’d rather not go to the island now. If that’s okay.”

Cayman smiled. “It’s more than okay, my darling.”

God, I loved this man. “You’re so easy on me.”

“Bexli, apart from you and your mother, no one knows better than I do what you faced growing up.”

“That’s another thing we haven’t talked about.”

“Yes, well, not my finest hour.”

I shook my head. “I heard what my father said, Cay.”

He closed his eyes and looked up at the ceiling. “I hoped you hadn’t,” he murmured, returning his gaze to me.

“I don’t want to hide from them anymore.”

He nodded.

“I don’t want to do it right away, but I’d like to talk to my mum and let her know I’m in Shere. I mean, as long as it’s okay if I continue staying with you.”

“I hope you’ll consider living with me forever, Bex. I suppose that wasn’t a very romantic proposal.”

“Is that what it was? A proposal?”

“If I say no, will you allow me a do-over?”

“How about if I just say yes?”

Wren returned. “Yes to what? Wait. Don’t answer that.”

“I’m going to move in with Cayman. I mean, I’m already staying there. It’ll just be more…permanent.”
