“Look at this.”

“Oh, my God. You sold everything? As in, ev-er-y-thing?”

“Yep. The last of the items walked out the door just before you got here. Tate and his friend Aidyn came in and bought what I had left.”

“Tate?” She clucked her tongue. “I’m thinking there might be something going on here with Tate.”

“Nothing. But he is sexy, and it certainly isn’t a hardship to see him.”

“I’ve been hearing the girls in town tittering on about these guys. I guess the two women who work with them are knockouts, too! Just what we need is competition.”

Lara laughed, then stepped back into the kitchen. “Tate caught me watching his ass.”

“No way! Tell me all about it.”

Chapter11

Tate pulled into the parking lot of Lara’s Delights and shut his truck off. Her lights weren’t on yet, and honestly, he probably shouldn’t make this a habit. But, he had a sweet tooth, and she made the best cookies he’d ever tasted. And the coffee at the construction site sucked. It literally sucked.

So, why not start the day off with things he enjoyed? Spencer and Aidyn had gone to the construction site already, and he’d only be a few minutes behind them.

The lights turned on; he hopped from his truck and sauntered to the front door. The aroma that wafted over him the instant he pulled the door open made his mouth water.

“Dang, it smells good in here.”

Lara’s laugh caused goose bumps to form on his body. When he gazed into her eyes though, he felt his heartbeat speed up so much that he felt it in the hollow of his neck.

“Well, good morning. That’s a great way to start my day.”

Swallowing, he smiled. “It looks like we’ll both be starting our days off great, then.”

“Are you looking for cookies this morning?”

“I’d like nothing more.”

She giggled. “Okay then. Today I felt a bit more creative and decorated some construction cookies.”

She pointed to the case, and he chuckled. “Those look amazing.”

She beamed, and he couldn’t stop staring at her smile. The bell from the door sounded, and he turned to see Spencer and Aidyn enter the bakery.

“Dang, it smells great in here.” Spencer boasted.

Aidyn chuckled and glanced his way. The grin on his face was vexing and the hairs on his neck stood and prickled.

Spencer sauntered to the counter next to him. “You look fresh as a daisy this morning, Lara.”

Her cheeks turned pink and Tate swallowed. If Spencer had designs on Lara, he’d back away. They had to live together, and he was the team leader, he’d do nothing that would cause trouble.

Lara responded softly. “Thank you.”

Her eyes darted between the two of them, and Tate took a deep breath. “I’ll take the construction cookies and a coffee, please.”

“All of them?”

“Yes. I’ll share them with everyone at the site. Including these two knuckleheads.”

Aidyn chuckled, and Spencer nodded. “Sounds great. I’ll take a coffee too.” Spencer turned his head to Aidyn. “Aid, you want coffee?”
