He grinned at Aidyn. “Did you hear the BRR out and about last night?”

“Yes. Didn’t you?”

He shook his head. “No. My bedroom is at the back of the house. I didn’t hear anything.”

“Lucky fucker.”

Tate chuckled and shrugged. “Maybe.”

Aidyn stood. “I’m going to shower and get ready. I’ll be down in a bit. How about we eat breakfast at the diner this morning?”

“That sounds good.”

Aidyn left the room and he nodded toward Addy. “You want to spearhead the factory showing? See when we can get in?”

“Sure can.

“I’ll run it past my dad and let him know what we’re thinking once we can take a look at it. I know mom looked for a long time to find a place here big enough for all of us and there isn’t much available.”

“Yeah. Grandma is going to hate to hear that we’re thinking of living in a factory.”

He laughed. “Poor Pilar. She has sure been put through the wringer between your Aunt Jax, and you and Maya joining GHOST.”

“I think she’s proud, but she likes giving Aunt Jax grief.”

“It’s sort of their thing.”

Tate walked into the dining room and opened the lid on his laptop. He signed into GHOST’s database and wrote his report regarding their discussion with Everett yesterday. Baxter was less than pleased when he heard Everett’s comments on the base. They needed to brace for more trouble from the BRR where it was concerned.

He typed in Everett’s comments on Keaton and sat back to think about it for a minute. Aidyn stepped into the room and chuckled as he pulled out a chair and sat in it to put his boots on.

“What are you lost in thought over?”

“Everett’s comments about Keaton. ‘Ask Keaton about the men coming up and sampling our women’.”

Aidyn nodded. “I’ve been wondering about that too.”

Tate typed a question in his report, “What does Keaton Bennit know about the men going up the mountain to sample the women?”

Tate tooka deep breath and dialed Keaton’s number.

“Good morning, Tate. What can I help you with?”

“Good morning. I have a meeting with the mayor at eight o’clock. Is there any time for us to meet beforehand?”

His eyes darted to the clock on his computer and noted it was just after seven.

“Ah…” Keaton huffed out a breath. “I’m at the bakery now. Lara’s security system is offline and I asked her to wait until I got here this morning to check things out. Then, I had a few things to do, and I just got back and am having a cup of coffee at the moment. You’re welcome to join me here.”

“We’ll be right there.”

He hung up and closed the lid on his laptop. “We’re meeting with Keaton at Lara’s.”

Aidyn chuckled. “Good coffee and cookies. Nice.”

Chapter18

Lara heard Tate’s truck pull into the lot at the front of her bakery. Looking out the window she saw Aidyn in the passenger seat. She turned over two ceramic coffee cups and filled them. Twisting, she set them on the end of the counter where the creamers and sugar were arranged before pulling two plates from the shelf behind her bakery counter and laid them on top of the bakery case.
