She smiles. “That’s the best way to be, Tee girl. Never give up information on your friends. That’s a line we don’t cross.” She links her arm through mine and pulls me into the shelter. “Yo, Nell,” she yells. “We got a live one. This is my girl, Tee.”
Christ. She’s really taking me being part of her crew seriously. I was just hoping to do a few nights here, and then get the hell out of Indianapolis.
“Oh, newbie,” a woman with bright red hair cries as she runs over to me. “Oh, honey,” she says as she holds me at arm’s length. “You really have been through it, haven’t you?”
I glance at Portia, wondering if she’ll clue me in as to who the woman is and why is she’s staring at me like she’s going to cry.
“This is Nell, Tee girl. Nell, this is Tee.”
Nell nods, her red hair flying everywhere. “Portia, she’s now ours to protect,” she says softly yet fiercely, so that she’s not overheard. “Ours.”
Portia stands up straight and an angry look forms on her face. “Nell here is an empath. She can feel pain.”
I take a step back. “Don’t do that,” Nell whispers. “I’m so sorry for the pain you feel. I don’t know what happened, but I do know how terrible it was.”
It’s time for me to go. I can’t be around people who know what happened to me. I don’t want the pitying glances. Just like Nell’s giving me now.
I want to be free of all the chains that are holding me down, and my memories are one of those chains.
Looking between Portia and Nell, I have a feeling that escaping these two is going to be a hell of a lot harder than it was to escape Jade and Kelvin.
Right now, I just need to get through tonight. Take it one day at a time. Thriving is surviving, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing.

One Month later
My jaw clenches as I pull on my shirt. My chest is completely covered in scars. They’re jagged, red, raw, and angry. I’m beyond pissed that I haven’t been able to exact revenge. The Gallagher’s closed ranks when the time came and only let those closest to Chloe get the revenge they sought. What angers me the most is that they allowed an outsider to be a part of their vengeance. A member of the Viper Fury MC in New York was present and helped kill the bastards.
I’m not giving up. There has to be someone who was involved in this shit that is still alive. Someone that I can take down and ruin just as those cunts did to me.
“Elio,” I hear Rocco call out.
He pulled into the driveway twenty minutes ago. No doubt he was on a call. My brother has gained many alliances since he took the helm of this family. The Gallo’s power has stretched wide. Soon, we’ll be expanding into Missouri, and when we do, Dario will be taking up the position of Underboss there while Rocco continues to lead.
“Everything okay?” I question as I reach for my jacket and pull it on. The scars on my chest pull at the movement, and I bite back a wince. Fuck. The sooner that shit stops happening, the better.
“Has Emiliano found anything out yet?” he asks as I walk into the kitchen, where I find not only him but Dario seated, having coffee and eating breakfast my chef, Jason, made this morning.
I take a seat, and Jason places a cup of coffee in front of me, quickly followed by a plate of food. “Not yet. He’s digging, but nothing has popped up yet. Why?” I’m always curious when my brother takes an interest in things. It means he has a plan.
“Well, Dario here managed to find something. I have a feeling that we can use it to our advantage,” Rocco says gleefully.
Oh, now I’m intrigued.
“Bear has a daughter,” Dario informs me. “Teagan Mitchell is twenty-two and lived in the Dirty Demons’ clubhouse the majority of her life.”
I grin. Now that is some news to receive bright and early.
“Now, here’s the problem,” Rocco says. “She’s vanished. No one has seen her at all since the clubhouse was raided by the Gallagher’s.”
Well fuck.
“But, now we know who we’re looking for,” I say. “It won’t be hard to put out some feelers and find out where she is.”
Dario nods. “Exactly. Then when we find her, we come to some sort of arrangement with her.”
