I dialed her number and she answered, “Enjoying yourvacation?”

Was it my imagination, or had there been a different emphasis on the word vacation? Maybe she was angry that I had left without saying goodbye. “Hasn’t really started. I want to say thank you again for letting me stay at your house. I meant to leave you a note, but I didn’t want to turn on a light and chance waking you.”

“You’re welcome.”

That was a very short answer. It meant I should’ve woken her. I knew it as soon as I left.Damn.No point in apologizing again. If there ever is a next time with you, I won’t make the same mistake.

Changing the subject, I said, “Even though it is only noon here, my brother is down at the bar. I figured I’d get some work done,” I replied.

“That doesn’t sound like a vacation.”

I had to remind myself that she had no idea why I was really there. If she had, I know she’d insisted on coming. Hell, I invited her. But that was only to see how far Venus would go to keep MaKayla away from Tabiq. I had my answer. Now I needed to know why.

“Vacation starts tomorrow. I have jetlag. I’m sure you can relate since you travel,” I said.

“I hate that. It’s like you lose a day every time you travel. They should give you an extra day to compensate,” she joked.

I forced a yawn. “It’s a good idea. I’ll mention it to my boss next time I see him.”

She chuckled. “If he gives you a hard time, let me know, I’ll let him know what a dedicated, hard worker you are,” she teased, knowing damn well I was my own boss.

I appreciated her lightheartedness. But it also made it difficult to remember that she was off limits. She’s my client. It still shocked me that someone like her, beautiful, intelligent, and funny, was still single. Hell, I'd have thought some guy would’ve snatched her up and had her married with children by now.I know if we were together, I wouldn’t keep you single for long.

Where did that thought come from? The idea of being married had never even crossed my mind. MaKayla and I weren’t even dating. We’d kissed, but that was just acting. Well, it was also extremely pleasurable and left me horny, but it was still business.

Changing the subject I said, “Speaking of work, are you ready to go back to it?”

MaKayla sighed. “What I’d give to be with you in Tabiq right now and I’m not even a beach person.”

“You’re not?” I said surprised.

“I don’t hate them, but lying on a beach is so...boring.”

I wouldn’t mind being on a beach with her. She probably looked amazing in a bikini.Stop thinking like that. It’s not helping.

“I completely understand. That’s why I don’t go to them much myself,” I replied.

“And you picked Tabiq for a vacation? A place where the only thing to do is to relax on a beach,” she said.

“I thought you said you hadn’t been here before,” I said, wondering if I just caught her in a lie.I really hope I'm wrong.

“I...I googled it this morning when I got up. I’d never even heard of the place until you mentioned it. So I was...curious.”

Is that all?

I knew there was more to it than that, but I had to play it cool. “Yeah. I only learned about it a little while ago. But my brother Draven loves the beach.” Or the bar. Both start with B. “He’ll be enjoying himself.”

“Your brother is with you?” she asked.

“Didn’t I mention that before?” I knew I had.

“Oh, yeah. You said he was down at the bar.”

“That’s right,” I replied.

“I’m sure you didn’t travel all that way not to spend time together. You should go and enjoy your vacation. Better to sit in the bar than work in your room. We can talk when you return next week,” she said. “Besides, it is late and I have a very early start tomorrow.”

I’d much rather be working, at least right now, because it’s all about helping MaKayla. “Sweet dreams, MaKayla. And I’ll see you when I get back.”
