“Or other children in Tabiq,” he prodded.

I hadn’t given that any thought. But then again, that was before I knew we were going to be going back and forth so often. “It’s something I’ll think about. Not sure it’s a financially sound business there. I mean, I don’t want to do something that only people with money can afford.”

We were fortunate not to have to worry about money. Mom and I weren’t millionaires by any means, but my father had made sure we were able to live comfortably without worries. People of Tabiq worried about the everyday cost of food and shelter.

“You don’t have to do it for money. Do it for the love of the art,” he replied.

“Just when I think I can’t love you any more than I do, you continue to amaze me,” I choked back tears.

He reached into his pocket, took out his wallet, and pulled out a folded piece of paper. “I think this would be best used for supplies for your ballet school. You know, for the students, not the building. We can cover all that.”

I took the paper and opened it. “This…this is the check I gave you to find my family.” He nodded. “I can’t take this back. You did exactly what I asked.”And so much more.

He wrapped his arms around me again and said, “You asked me to findyourfamily, but instead, I foundmine. And I have a strict policy about working for family.”

He was going to make me ugly cry when all I wanted was this to be a romantic, beautiful moment.Don’t cry.Fighting the tears again, I said, “I never knew I could be loved like this.”

“This, mon amour is just the beginning.”

“I love you,” I said, claiming his lips.

I had started out searching for my past, and what I never knew was that it really was my future that I was going to find. The universe thankfully knew me better than I knew myself.

I wonder what else you have in store for us. I guess Damien and I will find out together.

The End
