“What is that?” he asked.

Giving him a wicked grin, I said, “My thong. I guess I forgot to pack it.”

His eyes widened. “You mean you’re...commando?”

“Guess you’ll have to find that answer out for yourself,” I teased him.

Damien pulled me hard against him and said, “Mon amour, what am I going to do with you?”

“I have a few suggestions,” I said.

“I have only one.”

“What is that?” I asked.

“Marry me,” he said.

Had I heard him correctly? I hadn’t allowed myself to even think that far ahead. I had still been afraid that I was wrong and that I’d be going home heartbroken.

“MaKayla, this is where you say yes,” he said.

“Damien, I don’t want you to feel pressured to marry me.”

“I don’t. I love you. I can’t picture my life without you in it. I don’t care if we live here in New York or in Halifax. Hell, I’ll even live in Tabiq if you want. I can work from anywhere, but home is where you are. Now, I’m waiting. Will you marry me?” he asked again.

“Yes, Damien. I’ll marry you.”

He kissed me hard and held me close. I pulled away and said, “New York.”

“What?”

“New York. I want to live in New York. As long as you don’t expect me to eat those wieners,” I said.

Damien grinned, “If you marry me, I’m willing to give up eating hot dogs for good.”

I placed my hand on my heart and said dramatically, “You really do love me.”

He pulled me close again, and said, “Don’t ever doubt it, mon amour. I love you.”

I thought he’d be kissing me and making love to me right here. But he still seemed to have something on his mind. “Was there something else you wanted to ask me?”

“Not ask, but I wanted to let you know, your mother is welcome to come and stay with us. I mean, I know it has been just the two of you all this time. I can’t imagine she would want to stay in Halifax alone.”

Another reason why I love you.

“You’re right. She won’t be staying there. At least not forever. We have decided to sell the restaurant to Jenny. Well, pretty much giving it to her for the cost of what is owed on the equipment. Mom will stay and train her on what she needs to learn on the financial side. But Jenny is going to college for business and loves that place. Also, she is the closest thing we have to family in Canada. She’s more than an employee. She is like a friend, or rather a sister to me.”

“I think that’s a great idea. Then your mother can come to New York.”

I shook my head. “Actually, she wants to go home to Tabiq. I know it is crazy, but she wants to open a restaurant there. Dean and Zoey are going to help her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so excited.”

“Wow. You’re right. I didn’t see that coming. But with her there, are you sure you want to be in New York?” he asked.

“Yes. I’m a big city girl. But…but I would like to travel back and forth to Tabiq. There is so much I still want to learn about the people there.” I hoped he was going to be okay with me leaving him so often.

“I think that’s a great idea. And funny that you mention it because Dean and Bennett had a conversation with me a few days ago. It seems as though my skill for locating missing family members could come in handy in Tabiq. So I would also be needed to travel there. Maybe a few months at a time. How do you feel about that?”

It was a weight lifted off my heart. “I will love it. So will my family. I told Christina that I would come back and teach her some ballet. I mean, just because I can’t be a professional dancer doesn’t mean I can’t teach my niece to dance.”
