“Me too. Let’s do it at my hotel,” she suggested.

I would rather talk in a crowded place because the odds that we would actually talk in public were well higher than our chance oftalkingin private. Her room was going to be a temptation I was trying to avoid. At least for now. But it was about her being comfortable too. “Okay. Your room it is.”

The walk wasn’t long and soon she was opening the door to her hotel room. When we went inside, I realized she didn't have a suite. Nope. There was a bed and two chairs to sit on.

Fuck. I’m in trouble.

“Did you want to order room service?” she asked.

“Not for me,” I said.

“Okay, then let’s sit down and talk,” she said, plopping on the bed.

I looked at her, and then took a seat in the chair by the window. “This is safer. I mean, at least until after we talk.”

Venus made a face but got off the bed and came to sit beside me. “Is this what you want?”

“Not really, but I know you and I are not good at talking if there is a bed involved. And I really have things I want to say, and ask,” I honestly. “Things I’d rather not talk about on the phone.”

“I’m all ears. What do you want to talk about?” she asked.

Where to start? I rehearsed this several times and had it down pat. Now with her, I had no idea what to say at first.

“Well, that’s a lot of information for me to process,” she teased.

“Sorry. I just don’t want to forget anything,” I stated.

“How about I start?” I nodded and she asked, “How is it going living in Portland?”

I grumbled. “It’s not fun. I’m glad to be close to my mother during this time, but there is nothing for me there. Granted the ocean is close so it’s not as though they live in central America, but still, not for me.”

“How long are you planning on staying there?” she asked.

“Not sure. Mom is doing well at the rehabilitation center, and they believe she can come home in a week or two.”

Venus smiled. “That’s wonderful news. Your father must be thrilled.”

“He is. He told me to tell you hello,” I said.

Her eyes widened. “You told him about me?”

“Yes. I hope that was okay,” I replied. It was not like I planned on it, but once her name was mentioned, I had no choice.

“Of course. Just like my daughter and Damien know about you. I... didn’t think that what we shared was something I needed to hide. I should’ve asked before telling anyone though.”

“It’s not. I actually had talked to my brother Rian about you even before I went to Tabiq. He didn’t know your name or anything, and he might have said that I was crazy, but we discussed you.”

“Why would he think you’re crazy talking about me?” she questioned.

“Probably because I was traveling to a country after a woman who I wasn’t sure would even remember me. Yet I couldn’t forget anything about you. And after seeing you again, I knew you’d be etched in my heart forever.” I reached across the small table that was between us and took her hand in mine. “Venus, we never talked about us.”

“Is there anus?”she asked.

“I want there to be. Since I left and came home, I’ve been trying to figure out how we can make this work. I know you don’t want to be in the States, but my business is here. I can relocate anywhere in the States as long as it’s by the ocean. I can’t build custom sailboats without the proper dock and tools to do so,” I said. What the fuck am I doing. I don’t want to be talking about work. I want to talk about us.“Forget all that. Let me start again.”

“Okay.”

“I want there to be an us. I’m not sure how we are going to do it, but in my heart, I know we can. That is if you want there to be an us, too.”
