For a moment, there was silence as she sipped her coffee.

“Well, I guess we better get back to work. We need to go check on the cattle up in the north pasture,” he said.

They stood to go.

“Wait, I have another question for you,” she said, glancing up at them. “Can you tell me why that bed in the master bedroom is so big? That sucker will sleep four people in it, at least.”

Colby snickered and Preston shot him a look.

“You know nothing about Blessing, do you?”

She shrugged. “Not really. My father never mentioned the town to me or my mother.”

A grin spread across Colby’s face. “You’ve got to tell her.”

“Tell me what?”

As the sun beat down on them, he knew the day was going to be a hot one, but right now, the temperature on the small patio was heating up.

Preston sighed and knew the man was right. “When this town was started, women were scarce and men were tired of being alone. So it became common practice that two men shared a woman. One would be her legal husband, and the second man would be her husband as well, but not in the eyes of the state. That practice continues to this day.”

Her emerald eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. “What?”

CHAPTER7

Colby watched as Kalie looked between the two men with shock, her emerald eyes wide with amazement.

“No way. I can understand back a couple hundred years ago why this happened but now? To this day?”

Colby enjoyed the utter look of awe on her face. They had just surprised the woman from New York City and he was reveling in her obvious discomfort.

“Now, it’s more of a way of life than a need,” Preston said. “In my family, there are two fathers. Both of whom will walk my sister down the aisle. We don’t know which man is our real dad; they are both our fathers. I can’t imagine living any other way.”

Shaking her head, she gasped. “But…aren’t there laws against this type of thing?”

“Only one man marries the woman,” Preston replied.

When Colby rolled into town and soon learned that this was a common way of life here, he’d been amazed. And yet after he and Preston shared a woman, he’d adapted immediately. Maybe if there had been two fathers in his household growing up, he wouldn’t have gotten into trouble. Maybe someone would have looked out for him.

When he’d first met Preston’s family, he’d been jealous. Even when Preston and his brothers argued, there were no fists, no kicking or shoving. Just words spoken with an intensity that soon was resolved and then they were back to being friends.

Even now, Colby had trouble when things got intense. His first line of defense was to punch the hell out of whoever was causing trouble and ask questions later. Preston often was the calming force that kept him out of trouble.

“But how do the men share the woman and why would they accept it? Hell, it’s hard enough to find one good man, but now they’re searching for two? No way.”

Obviously Kalie had not had good experiences with men.

“Very simple,” Colby said, leaning down toward her. “The women like it and the men do too.”

“But at the same time? How?”

At her question, Preston couldn’t help but smile. “One man takes her pussy and one man takes her ass at the same time. They start slow and work their way toward them both taking her.”

Flabbergasted, she stared at them and then suddenly her eyes widened.

“Oh my God, my grandparents?”

“Yes, your grandparents,” Colby said.
