I give him a little shove. “I guess I’m just making up for lost time.”

He kisses my forehead. “I’m not one bit angry about it.”

The week is passing too quickly. We’re supposed to meet everyone back in Rome in two days. I know it ends when we leave, and I don’t want it to end. He was very clear about what this was and what happens afterwards. I wonder if this is normal for him. Spending a week with a woman like this and then just moving on like nothing happened? I know what I agreed to, but I also know that this isn’t just sex for me. I’ll sort that out later. Right now, I’m going to enjoy the rest of my time with him.

“Hey Junie, what’s that look for?” Bode asks. “You aren’t regretting this, are you?”

I laugh loudly. “No Bo, I’m not regretting this, and I never will.”

He looks at me sadly. He knows what I’m thinking but before we can get into it, there’s a knock at the door. We haven’t exactly hidden things from the Secret Service guys. How could we? We haven’t announced it or anything either. Everyone has been politely ignoring the obvious. Until now.

Shit. I mutter, looking around for my clothes.

“I’ll get it,” Bode says as he pulls on a pair of pants. I yank the covers up to my chin.

He cracks the door open. I can’t make out what they are saying until Bode turns to me – his face completely white and says, “Get dressed.”

He shuts the door and starts throwing clothes at me. “We’re leaving.”

I blink a few times. “What?”

“Get dressed. The Secret Service needs to move you.”

My blood runs cold. “Why?”

“Juno, get dressed. I’ll explain in the car.” He throws me a pair of panties.

“Do I have time to pack?” I ask.

“No.”

I pull on a pair of underwear he’s just tossed me. “Bode, you’re scaring me.”

“We’ll have someone bring your things later. Just hurry.”

I pull on the rest of my clothes and shoes.

“I’ll get your phone and purse,” he says, rushing around the room. As soon as I’m dressed, he grabs my hand and leads me out to the foyer. When we reach the front door of the villa, Rodriguez is waiting, gun drawn. I freeze, staring at it.

“I’ll cover you guys,” he says. “Just run to the car. The door is open. Stay low.”

I look around panicked. Are they not going to explain? Apparently, not because Bode wraps his body around mine and bends us down. “Let’s go.”

We run to the car together and he practically pushes me inside. Rodriguez slams the door behind us and hops into the front seat.

As soon as we’re inside, the car peels off.

“Is someone going to tell me what’s going on?” I ask.

Bode takes my hand. “There’s been an incident.”

My heart starts to pound. “What sort of incident? Where?”

“In Brussels.” He is looking directly into my eyes, and I can see the fear inside them.

I cover my mouth. “Is it James? Is he alright?”

Bode squeezes my hand. “There was a bombing.”
