He just laughs loudly. “Not a chance. I have plenty of room. You’re going to be hurting for a few days.”

I settle onto the sofa slowly. I’m not taking anything for the pain now other than acetaminophen.

“Besides Juno will want to see you,” Eli says as he walks to the kitchen.

I whip my head up. “Juno is in town?”

He stops walking and turns back to me. “Don’t you remember. She came to the hospital.”

Oh, god, I thought I’d dreamt that. I’m trying to remember what happened, but my brain is too fuzzy.

“I don’t really remember much.”

Eli laughs. “Well, you were high on those pain killers, so I’m not surprised. You were saying the craziest things.”

He walks into the kitchen.

“I was?” I call.

He laughs. “You’ll have to ask her about it. I left to come home and take a shower. I have no idea what you said but you said all kinds of crazy things to me.”

My heart starts pounding. There are a million things that I might have said and none of them are good.

“Where is she now?” I ask.

“Are you thirsty?” Eli calls from the kitchen. “Need a water?”

“Sure,” I call. He walks back into the living room and hands me water.

“Where is Juno now?” I ask again.

Eli plops down in the chair across from me. “Oh, I think she went for a run or something. I’m sure she’ll be back soon.”

I don’t respond. My brain is still reeling trying to figure out what I could have said to her.

Eli picks up the remote. “The game’s on. Wanna watch?”

I have no idea what game he’s talking about or even what sport, but I say, “Yeah, sounds good.”
