“Alright fine,” I say. “I’ll see you tonight.”

Chapter Sixty-Six

Bode

I’m nervously waitingon her front stoop again. I was hoping she’d be a bit more receptive to me being here, but she hasn’t turned me away either, so I’ll take what I can get. I’m hoping this furniture thing is an in for me, because I have an idea.

She walks up the sidewalk, bag in hand. She holds it up, “I brought dinner.”

“Did you make it?” I say, standing up.

She shakes her head. “No, they made it in the test kitchen. I made a cake today. Didn’t think that was the most balanced dinner.”

“Too bad.”

She shoots me a smile as she slips passed me. “Come in.”

I follow her inside. It is a wreck – boxes everywhere.

“Don’t judge,” she says. “I’ve just been avoiding it.”

“I’m not judging. I’m here to help. Where is this furniture?” I ask.

She points to the corner. “I really need that cabinet set up. There’s more too, but this needs to be first. I can start unpacking some of these boxes when it’s finished.”

I don’t move.

“Do you need anything?” she asks. “There’s a toolbox in the corner.”

“I’d like something in return,” I say.

She huffs. “Like sex?”

My eyes nearly pop out of my head. “What? Juno, you can’t be serious. No, I’m not asking for sex in return.”

She puts her hands on her hips. “What then?”
