Keene groans.

“What? It’s beautiful. Is it really so bad to be lost in one of the most beautiful places in the world? I’m enjoying exploring,” Juno says.

I completely agree, but Keene says, “Exploring? That’s what you call this?”

She flips him off, and he chuckles.

We all follow behind Eli. He turns down several small streets, and we walk for a while. Apparently, Juno had taken us far in the wrong direction. Again, not that I’m complaining. I’d happily walk around Rome lost with Juno all day.

Eli points. “I found it.”

Juno claps her hands and then kisses him quickly on the cheek. “You’re my favorite brother.”

He laughs. “I’m not.”

“You’re right. You’re not, especially not when you’re trying to keep me from having fun.”

“We’re having fun right now, aren’t we?” he says.

She nods toward the gelato shop. “You’re buying my gelato.”

“Of course,” he says, following her inside.

“Oh my god, it smells amazing in here.” Juno is leaning down and looking at the cases of pastries and candies. “We need to buy some of these too.”

“Ok, pick out whatever you want,” Eli says. Juno lowers herself down so she’s eye to eye with the case and looks at each one.

“Is it this hard to decide on some candy?” Keene says.

She flashes her eyes to him and says, “I’m admiring them. They are like tiny works of art. Just look at this. Can you imagine making something this beautiful?”

My stomach flutters, damn it. Theyarebeautiful, and I love that she notices and takes the time to stop and admire them. I walk over and join her at the case.

“These tarts are stunning,” she says softly. I’m not sure if she’s talking to me or herself.

“They are,” I reply. “I really like these chocolates over here. The attention to detail is incredible.”

She turns her eyes up toward me, surprise written all over her face and then slowly says, “Yes, they are. I’m sure everything tastes delicious too. It smells amazing in here.”

One of the workers comes over, and she starts ordering. She turns to me a few times and asks my opinion. Finally, she tells the worker we want gelato too. He explains that we pay first, get a ticket, and then go to the next room and order.

Once we’ve finished paying, we walk to the edge of the next room, which is completely packed with people, so we can join the line.

“God, there’s no way this ice cream is worth standing in this line,” Eli mumbles.

“When there’s a line for food that is this long, you know it’s good,” Juno responds. He gives a little half shrug. After a few minutes, one of the workers comes out and says something in Italian. Everyone in front of us gets out of the line and then crowds into the room, a huge crush of people in front of the gelato case. They are yelling and waving their tickets in the air.

“What the hell just happened?” Eli frowns, looking around.

“I think that guy said something liketo hell with the line, storm the gelato case and riot,or something like that,” Keene says.

“I guess we should go up there,” Juno points.

“What doespregomean?” Keene asks. Everyone near the case is waving their tickets in the air and yellingprego.

“Please,” I say.

“Is that what we’re supposed to do?” Juno says.
