Chapter Twenty-Two

Juno

Isneak a peek at Bodeas we walk toward the cooking school. It’s a beautiful morning, just a slight cool breeze blowing around us. The soft light of the morning is warming up all the buildings in the village.

I’m not mad Eli is gone. I mean, I’ll miss him, but I won’t miss him hovering over me. I have a much better chance of hooking up with someone with Bode as me keeper than Eli, that’s for sure.

I steal another look at Bode. I still haven’t ruled him out either. I mean, we’ve kissed several times and it was good – really good. And then, what was that the other day in Venice on the gondola?

Nothing wrong with pretending for a moment. Just enjoy it.

Maybe I can convince him to do some pretending with me here at the house? I nearly shiver just thinking about that. I’m still trying to figure out why he made the other comments too.

I’m a lucky man. I don’t deserve her.

Why did he say that? And then there was...

She’s a goddess, isn’t she?

“Why are you scowling at me?” he says, looking over at me with a frown.

I clear my throat and look straight ahead. I was so lost in thought I hadn’t realized I was.

He sighs. “Listen, I know you’re pissed about Eli leaving me in charge of you and everything.”

I stop walking and put my hands on my hips. “In charge of me?”

“That’s not what I was saying. I didn’t mean...”

I cut him off. “No, that’s exactly what you meant.”

“I really don’t want to get into the middle of your family drama,” he says.

I start walking again and say, “Too late.”

He follows after me. “You really need to talk with them, Juno.”

“Well, they aren’t here right now, so I’m stuck with you. I don’t need a babysitter...or a jailor for that matter.”

Before he can respond, I point to the building in front of us, “It’s right there.”

We walk inside together, trailed by Rodriguez and O’Shay. There’s already a group waiting inside.

“I’m Patrizia, you must be Juno and Bode.” An older woman with a friendly smile approaches us with her hand outstretched. “Welcome to Tuscany.”

We shake her hand, and she gives both of us aprons. As we’re putting them on, she says, “Let me introduce you to the group. You’ll be together for the next two weeks.”
