“I’m sorry, Capo. Gia told me the Antonovich brothers were planning to kill you and Paul, Jr. in a few months. The Vincenzio family would be finished. The Outfit crippled. The Antonovich brothers would be unstoppable. Gia promised that I would take over as capo. I would marry Gia. Christophe would marry Gwen and take over the Fielding real estate empire. The Outfit would form an alliance with the Antonovich brothers. The Outfit and the Bratva would share Chicago.”

“So, you agreed to kill us and cripple the Outfit? New York would never allow you to be capo of the Outfit! What the fuck is wrong with you Nick?” My father screamed.

Nick, a middle-aged mobster, a fool for love. Pathetic.

“You old fool. Gia would never marry you. She was just using you and the Antonovich brothers to make me Capo of the Outfit. She does not give a fuck about you! She makes fun of you! Her nickname for you is fat fuck! Nick Jr. laughs.

“No, I don’t believe you. She loves me.” Nick whines.

Nick is slobbering all over himself. I am looking forward to shutting him up. Permanently.

“You told Bogun about my marriage to Gwen before I even knew about it – that’s why the Razors kidnapped her. You told Christophe Antonovich the security code to my penthouse, so he come and kill me!” I accuse Nick.

“Yes, I thought you were home. I didn’t know they would kidnap Gwen. They were supposed to kill you. I didn’t know you were in New York.”

“Nick, I respected you. You are my Consigliere.”

“No Bobby, I was your father’s consigliere – not yours. I never agreed with you being capo. You are too young. It is not tradition. You have changed the Outfit. We are criminals not businessmen!”

“Paul, I will give you the honors. Kill Nick. He betrayed me and fucked your wife.”

I hold out my knife to Paul Jr.

“No. I don’t need revenge – I don’t give a fuck about that cunt! Capo, can I have a divorce?”

Despite his words, I think Paul, Jr. may have indeed cared about his wife, Gia.

“Done.” I answer.

I listen to the sound Paul Jr.’s loafers make on the metal staircase as he leaves the basement.

My father asks, “Bobby, what are you going to do about Gia Bellantoni?”

“Please don’t hurt her.” Nick begs me.

I ignore him.

“Nothing. She is in New York. Paul Jr. will divorce her. Gia will be humiliated. Spoiled goods. No made man will want to marry her.”

I walk behind Nick, my consigliere.

“Any last words?” I ask.

“Will you make sure my ex-wife and children are taken care of?”

“Of course. They will not suffer for your mistakes.”

Nick is sobbing. He has wet himself. I smell urine. I pull his Nick’s head back. I slit his throat with my knife. Blood sprays everywhere. Fortunately, I do not get blood on my Armani suit. I listen to Nick gurgling – fighting to breathe. He is dead in seconds.

“Reno call the cleaners.” I command.

The cleaners will remove Nick’s dead body.

I walk over to a sink and wash Nick’s blood off my hands.

My father and I go up to the club. We sit at a secluded table. A new girl brings us bottle of expensive whiskey and two glasses. She looks barely eighteen. I make a mental note to ask Dominick why he hired such a young girl.

My father and I have much to talk about, but we remain silent. We ignore the female nude dancer writhing on a pole in front our table. My father mourns for his friend. I think about the other loose end I need to tie up – Vanessa.
