“Love, no amount of BB-2 crying will stop me from making love to my woman.”

I wrap her legs around my waist and carry her to our bedroom, where I triple-check the door is locked. I’ve had enough picnic talk to last me a lifetime.

Chapter 29

Kiki

We left theAcademy of Country Music Awards after-parties early tonight because I was beat, and Tatum didn’t feel like partying into the wee hours of the morning. He spins me in a slow circle and gathers me in his arms as we dance to a slow song on our back porch, the twinkle lights strung above creating a magical glow. I smile up at him in wonder. I don’t know how I got so lucky to have this beautiful, talented man as my husband and best friend.

“I’m so proud of you, Tater Tot. Winning another ACM.”

“It wasn’t only me. I wouldn’t have won tonight without Lex, Matt, and Will.”

“I know.” Smiling, I search his eyes. “That’s what I love about you. So many other artists would have wanted to go off on their own, but not you. You love your people fiercely.”

He squeezes me tight. “The guys make me a better singer, a better artist, a better person. I’d be an idiot to think otherwise.”

“Well I, for one, as your biggest fan, think you could make anything happen on your own.” I curl my fingers into his hair at the nape of his neck. “But I know you’d be lost without them.”

Grinning, he spins me around. I laugh, holding onto him, burning this moment into my forever memories. I close my eyes and lean my head against his chest. We sway to Kane Brown’s song, “Thank God”, and I can’t help but think how true the words ring for us.

“I love you, Tater Tot.”

“I love you, Coffee Girl.”

“Oh my god, I love you both,” a third party cries out, arms encircling us, causing me to scream.TJ?

Tatum steps back. “What the hell?”

“Jesus, TJ, I almost kicked you in the nuts. What the fuck are you doing here?” I yell.

TJ wipes a tear from his cheek, standing with his arms crossed. “Seriously, you guys are the most adorbs couple I’ve ever witnessed.”

“How did he get past security?” A bewildered Tatum shoves his hands in his hair.

“I have a key, and Brad was out there and waved me in.”

“Brad is so fired,” Tatum breathes out.

I grind my teeth and look over at TJ. “You have until three to explain what you’re doing here. Dammit, TJ, you know this is the first minute we’ve had alone in days. Shouldn’t you be at home redecorating or something?”

“Wow, Kinky, that is so stereotypical. Oh! By the way, that reminds me, Connor and I are going antiquing Saturday if you want to tag along.”

“I’m in. You know I can’t turn down a day of antiquing.” I shake my head. “Dammit, you’re purposefully getting me off track! Tammy Jean, what are you doing here?”

“Oh, well, Drew-bear forgot Bankie, so I told Connor I’d run and grab it. Lord, that little mini Tatum gets worked up at bedtime if he doesn’t have it. So, here I am, looking for Bankie, minding my own biz when I see you two out here slow-dancing in your fancy clothes and I just couldn’t help myself. You looked too cute not to hug. Oh Tatum, congrats on the win tonight. Looking extra fine in that tux. Of course you do, I picked it out,” he titters. “Honestly, I thought you guys would be out partying. But I’ve got Bankie, so…yeah.” He stands and grins at us like a complete loon.

“You snooped through our bedroom, didn’t you?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Define snoops?”

“TJ…”

“I mean I might have peeked in and happened to notice a t-shirt of Tatum’s lying on the chair, and Imighthave smelled it.”

Tatum looks like he’s about to blow a gasket, so I take TJ’s arm and spin him toward the door. “Thanks for coming to get Bankie. We appreciate you watching the boys tonight, but it’s late so—”

“Oh, totes, totes, I got you, boo.” He waggles his eyebrows. “I’ll let you two get back to making babies.”
