I glanced at Viper and gave him a little finger wave.

My conversation with South Paw had been brewing in the back of my mind for hours. It wasn’t the first time someone had said something about Viper’s past. They all knew the truth, and here I was, sleeping with the man who hadn’t told me a thing.

Who was the girl, and what had Viper done for her?

Chapter27

“I needto use the restroom real fast,” I said.

“Go,” Annabella urged. “Before the next rush.”

“I didn’t think we were going to get a lull tonight,” I said with a laugh.

“Just long enough to play catch-up and restock.” She winked.

I went to the end of the bar and told Viper I was going to the restroom and to please not follow me. He reluctantly nodded. I’d hoped by wearing jeans and my cowboy boots and a gray V-neck tee instead of daisy dukes, he wouldn’t feel inclined to push me against the wall and distract me as he’d done in the past. No doubt it would be enjoyable if he did, but I didn’t want to leave Annabella on the floor by herself, and I especially didn’t want it getting back to Mia that I couldn’t be professional. She’d given me a chance because Colt had asked her to, but I refused to be a disappointment or a drain on her.

As I was coming out of the bathroom, Roman was strolling down the hallway toward the men’s room.

“Hey,” he greeted. “I didn’t get your name while we were ordering, and I feel like a dick.”

“Sutton.”

“Sutton, nice to meet you.” He inclined his head and was just about to move along when I placed my hand on his arm to stop him.

“Sorry to bother you,” I said, “but I have a really random question for you.”

“Shoot.”

I dropped my hand. “You said you ink the club.”

“Yeah.”

“So you’re familiar with their artwork,” I pressed.

“Well, some of them, yeah. I haven’t inked any of the new guys.”

“New guys. You mean like Viper?”

“Yeah.”

“Right.” I nodded. “I know this is a long shot, but if I show you a tattoo, would you be able to tell me its meaning?”

“Depends on what it is. But yeah, maybe.”

I peered down the hallway. The bar was still quiet. “Let’s go to the office real fast.”

I unlocked the door and pushed it open. I flipped on the light and then immediately went to the desk. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and drew the design I’d seen on Viper’s chest.

“I’m not an artist,” I said, “but this is the idea.” I turned the page around to show Roman.

He stared down at it for a long moment and then he said, “I recognize it.”

“You do?” I asked, my heart beating in excitement.

“Yeah. Where’d you see it?”

“On a customer,” I lied.
