I hated when he didn’t respond to me. It only made me want to annoy him more.
“Where’s Savage?” I asked.
He didn’t answer.
“Savage is cute. Likereallycute.”
Viper’s shoulders tensed as he pushed the front door of the clubhouse open.
“I feel like I should thank him. You know? He did a lot for me tonight. He packed my bag for me. He’s going to help me get rid of this problem. Does he like brownies? Cookies? I want to show him howgratefulI am.”
“You will not bake him brownies or cookies,” Viper snapped, finally turning to face me.
I grinned up at Viper’s menacing expression. I reached out to pat his chest. “Don’t worry. I can’t bake worth a damn.”
The living room was devoid of people, so luckily, there was no one there to witness our exchange.
As I looked around, I noticed the space was oddly tidy.
“You drive me batshit,” he muttered.
“You’ve said that already,” I pointed out. “So, where am I staying?”
“Spare room,” he said.
“So, not with you.”
“Not with me.”
“Oh.” I nodded. “Yeah, okay.”
“You sound disappointed.”
“You’re delusional. Lead the way.”
I followed Viper up to the second floor of the clubhouse to the room. He pushed the door open but didn’t move out of the way. I sidled past him. My duffel bag was at the foot of a double bed with a blue comforter pulled tightly over the top. The room smelled like lemon-scented cleaner.
“Bathroom is through there,” Viper said, pointing to a closed door.
He turned to leave.
“Wait,” I called out.
He stopped.
“You’re really not going to tell me why you brought me here when I could’ve just crashed with Carla?”
“You’ll talk to Prez in the morning,” he said. “For now, try to get some sleep.”
“Sleep,” I said flatly. “I’m supposed to just get some sleep after I—after Ikilledsomeone?”
His gaze darkened. “That shit right there—you can’t go around saying that. You gotta keep it to yourself. You get me?”
“I get you.”
With one last look, Viper closed the door.
I was alone.
