Here was a man willing to stand by my side through anything.

Willing to protect me.

Shelter me.

Love me.

“Are you sure, Viper?” I asked, giving him a watery smile. “If you ask me to be your Old Lady, you’renevergetting rid of me. I’m gonna stick to you like glue.”

He leaned forward and brushed his lips tenderly against mine. “That’s the hope, Sutton. That’s the motherfucking hope.”

Chapter35

“So, what happens now?”I asked sleepily, curled up in Viper’s arms after our shower.

“What do you mean?”

“Now that I’m your Old Lady and you’re my Old Man.”

“Old?”

“What? You can call me and Old Lady, but I can’t call you an Old Man?”

“Nope.”

“How about hot, virile, silver fox?”

“That works.” His hand slid down my back to grab the meaty curve of my ass. “Nothing changes. We still sleep together. I still protect you. You still give me your sass day in and day out, and then I punish you by getting you on your knees.”

“Not much of a punishment.”

He chuckled.

“What about tattoos and stuff?” I asked.

“What about them?”

“Do we get them?”

“Eventually.”

“Marriage?”

He paused. “Eventually.”

I snuggled closer. “I’m not rushing anything—I just wanted to know.”

“Marriage and permanent tattoos don’t freak you out, but a baby does?”

“I didn’t say a baby freaked me out. I said I’m not ready for that.”

“But youareready for marriage and tattoos?”

“Viper,” I snapped. “Stop twisting my words.”

“Sorry, spitfire. Just figured I’d give you a taste of your own medicine. You like giving me shit, so I returned the favor.”

I was slightly mollified by his endearment—and by his fingers drawing lazy circles on my skin.
