SOS. I don’t have a dress or shoes for the funeral.

Joni

I don’t have anything that’ll fit you.

Allison

My stuff has spit up on it.

Rach

Same.

Doc

I have a black cardigan you can borrow.

Mia

What size shoe do you wear?

Me

Five.

Willa

You’re the same size as Waverly. Let me see if she has anything that could work.

Darcy

If they don’t have anything, I’m sure Lily’s clothes would fit you. :P

Waverly came through. She had a strapless black lace dress with several skirt layers which I paired with Doc’s black cardigan and Mia’s heels.

I smoothed my hand over the skirt one last time before turning toward Viper. He sat on the edge of the bed, his elbows resting on his knees, his dark eyes intense.

He rose and held out his hand. I set my palm in his. He brought my hand to his lips, and he kissed the back of it.

“Honored to have you stand by my side today,” he said gruffly.

We went to the cemetery with Brooklyn and Slash in the back of Brooklyn’s red Ford. Slash reached over and placed his hand on her thigh, and she covered his hand with hers.

All the single bikers rode their bikes, and they pulled up and parked behind the brigade of SUVs and trucks.

The kids had stayed at the clubhouse, supervised by Waverly and Sailor. Prospects were on guard duty. It was a sad day and security measures were in place.

The sky was clear and there was a slight breeze in the muggy air. Slash helped Brooklyn out of the passenger side and slammed the door shut.

We all walked with quiet intensity to the plot of land where we’d lay South Paw to rest. The earth was newly dug, green and brown, a symbol of life in a place where the dead rested.

I shuddered from the thought.

Viper wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his side. The minister began to speak, but I tuned him out. Instead, I stared at the faces of those around me. Men draped arms around their Old Ladies, while they held their sleeping babies in their arms. Rach stood with her son, and it was so obvious she was lonely. Crow’s eyes were bloodshot, and I wondered if he’d even slept last night.

Brooklyn’s shoulders shook as she cried, and she dug through her clutch for a tissue. Joni’s tears streamed down her cheeks, but she made no move to wipe them away.

Aside from those two, everyone else was tearless.
