The back door opened, and Allison stormed out with Tank on her hip. Torque was behind her, his face an angry scowl.

He called her name, forcing her to stop. She turned and spoke to him, her voice too low for me to hear what she was saying. She adjusted Tank to her other hip and shook her head.

Torque gently grasped the back of her neck and pulled her close, putting his forehead to hers.

I looked away from the private moment, staring at my hands in my lap. The Old Ladies had fallen silent.

Torque marched to the shed. Allison straightened her shoulders and came toward us.

“Hey,” Mia said. “Are you okay?”

Allison shook her head and shrugged.

“What was that about?” Brooklyn asked.

“He was telling me what to do in case he died,” she said bluntly.

Rach flinched. “Oh…”

“Yeah.” Allison sighed. “If something happens to him, he wants me to leave Waco and be close to my sister. I didn’t want to talk about it, but he insisted. And now we’re fighting.”

I could feel it.

Conversation was stilted as we waited for the men to finish church. It didn’t take long, and when they came out, I knew.

They walked to us, bikers moving to stand near their women. Viper came to my side and set his hands on my shoulders while we waited for Colt to speak.

“We ride tonight,” he said.

Doc stood up from her chair and without a word strode into the clubhouse.

“What’s she doing?” I asked.

“Making sure she has enough supplies. In case…” Boxer sighed and went after her.

Viper squeezed my shoulders.

“Take a few hours,” Colt said. “Spend time with your families.”

Couples began to break off, either going inside or walking to the edges of the backyard.

I looked up at Viper, who was peering down at me with glittering brown eyes. I got up and he took my hand, leading me to the picnic table.

“Sit,” he said, helping me up onto the tabletop. He remained standing and put his large hands on the bare skin of my thighs.

“Viper, I—”
