He thought for a moment, his brow furrowed. “You make a house a home.”

My smile softened. “Oh.”

“It doesn’t sound romantic, I get that—”

I quickly covered his mouth with my hand. “It’s perfect.” I removed my palm and kissed his lips. “Let’s go to Three Kings and get it done.”

“You sure your ribs are up for it?” I asked, taking the helmet from Viper’s hand.

“Pain is temporary. I’ll be fine.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” I said as I snapped the buckle on my helmet and climbed on the back of his bike.

I gingerly wrapped my arms around him.

“You’re gonna fly off. Tighter, babe. You won’t break me.”

I was giddy with excitement as we zoomed down the road. I didn’t have any tattoos—I hadn’t really thought of getting one until Viper. Now, I couldn’t wait for some ink.

Hello, bad-girl phase.

Viper pulled into the Three Kings parking lot and cut the engine. He kicked the stand out, and I got off before he leaned the bike over and then got off as well. I removed the helmet and shook out my hair.

“You’re gonna look so sexy with my name on you,” he said as we stood next to his motorcycle. He cradled my face in his hands and bent down to kiss me.

His lips brushed mine.

I was closing my eyes to sink into his kiss when I heard the shot.

Viper jerked away from me, and his face contorted in pain.

“Viper!” I cried. I dropped the helmet on the ground and looked over my left shoulder in the direction of the sound, attempting to find the source of the threat.

A man across the street had his pistol aimed at Viper.

I jumped in front of Viper in an attempt to shield him.

Another shot rang out and the skin on my left arm burned. I cried out in pain.

Viper wrapped his gigantic arms around me and pulled us to the ground and then rolled on top of me, his body covering mine. We were concealed behind the motorcycle when I heard the front door to Three Kings burst open. Roman appeared in the doorway with a pistol in hand.

Viper pointed in the direction of the shots and yelled, “There!”

Roman raised his weapon and fired in the direction of the gunman. “Fuck, he’s gone!”

He lowered his arm and jogged toward us. He looked down at us as he approached. “You two okay?”

“Sutton’s been shot. Call an ambulance!”

“Oh my God,”I growled. “I’m fine. It was superficial. The bullet went in and out. I’m doped up on painkillers and they plied me full of antibiotics.I’m fine.”

Viper glared at me from his spot in the chair next to the hospital bed. He had a bandage around his mid-section. He’d been shot along his side—but it was nothing more than a graze. I’d been hit in the left arm near my tricep. We’d both gotten extremely lucky, with no serious debilitating injuries.

Vance Raider, the club attorney, had met us at the hospital. All police questions had been answered to their satisfaction. We were free to leave the hospital as soon as Viper let me off the bed.
