We glared at each other.

“One day you’re gonna be pregnant,” he tried again.

“But—”

“You’re not now, yeah, I know. But when you are, you can’t throw yourself in front of me if there’s danger. I have to protect you—protect you both when the time comes.”

“But that’s in the future. Way, way in the future.”

“Promise me.”

“Promise you what?”

“That when you’re pregnant, you won’t do anything stupid like trying to be my body armor.”

“I won’t,” I said quietly. “Until that time comes, though…”

He tilted my head back and kissed me.

“You’re wrong, though.”

“About what?” I asked breathlessly.

“It’s not possible for you to love me more than I love you.”

My hand moved up his chest to settle on his heart. “Tell you what. Why don’t we spend the rest of our lives trying to prove who loves the other more?”

He smiled slightly. “I can live with that.”

“Can I get out of here now, or what?”

After I’d signed a few forms, Viper and I headed toward the elevators.

“Wait,” I said.

“What? You leave something in the room?”

“No. How are we getting home? You rode in the ambulance with me—and I couldn’t ride your motorcycle even if it was here.”

“I’ve got it handled,” he said.

I frowned at him in confusion, but he ignored me and pushed the elevator button.

When we got down to the lobby and went outside, it was obvious what he meant.

Duke and Willa were sitting in her car, waiting for us.

“Oh my God,” Willa said as she jumped out of the vehicle.

“I’m fine,” I assured her.

Duke climbed out of the driver’s side and came over to us.

“Thanks for coming,” Viper said as he shook Duke’s hand.

“Of course. We dropped Crow off at Three Kings to get your bike.”
