Smoke grinned. “I like you.”

“I know.” I smiled back. “Shit-fuck of a day though. I was supposed to get a tattoo. And that was shot to shit. Pun intended.”

“Sutton,” Viper snapped.

“I have to crack jokes, so I don’t crack up, okay?” I said to him.

“Come on, brother. Let’s go out back,” Raze said to Viper.

“You can punch a tree or something. You know, to make yourself feel better,” Bones added.

The three of them, along with Kelp and Acid, headed outside. Crow moved to the spot on the couch next to Smoke and kicked a foot up.

“So, what happens now? God, I’d kill for a drink,” I muttered.

“What happens now?” Smoke repeated, stroking his chin. “Damn fine question. He called Prez already.”

“Oh?” I asked.

Smoke nodded. “Yeah. Had to let him know about the situation. Viper will get this shit sorted.”

“But where is the guy? It’s not like there’s a trail that’ll lead right to him,” I pointed out.

“Let Viper handle that. Don’t worry about a thing,” Smoke said.

“Worried? Who’s worried?” I asked.

“You look a little worried,” Crow said.

“I’m worried that Viper is going to do something insane.”

“So, what if he does?” Smoke asked. “This can’t go on. He’s got to end it.”

I swallowed. “So, you know then…about who shot us?”

They both nodded.

I rubbed my third eye. “I think I need to lie down,” I said, but I made no move to get up. “The stairs seem so far away.”

Crow grabbed the blanket on the back of the couch, got up, and draped it over me. “How about some tea?”

“You’d make me tea?” I asked in surprise.

“That’s what friends do, right?” he asked with a smile.

“Right.” I paused. “So, you guys know what happened…and Colt knows what happened. And we told Willa and Duke what happened because they picked us up from the hospital. But does that mean everyone else knows?”

“Definitely,” Smoke said.

“That includes the Old Ladies, I’m guessing.”

“Yep.” Smoke nodded.

“Great,” I muttered.

I didn’t want them descending upon me, checking in on me like we were doing with Darcy. I didn’t want to talk about it or explain anything. I just wanted to sit in silence with what happened and try and move past it. Not everything had to be dissected or torn apart.

“You know what?” I asked, flinging the blanket off me. “Don’t worry about the tea. I’m going upstairs. Thanks for the offer, Crow.”
