“What’s going on with you and Raze?” Joni asked.
Rach’s eyes widened. “What? Nothing’s going on.”
“No?” Mia teased. “I noticed you guys are getting friendly.”
“Because we’re friends. Nothing more,” Rach said.
“I’m not sure I believe you,” Allison teased.
“Believe what you want,” Rach said, her cheeks suddenly pink.
I smiled to myself.
Oh, yeah. There’s definitely something there.

Three days later, Viper brushed his lips across my bare shoulder, causing me to stir.
“Sutton,” he whispered.
“Hmm?”
“I’ve got to go.”
“Go? Go where?”
“I think you know…”
I was suddenly wide awake. My eyes flipped open, but I couldn’t see anything.
“Cover your eyes,” he said right before he flipped on the lamp.
I squinted. He was already dressed.
“You’ll be careful, right?” I asked quietly.
“Yeah.”
He leaned down to kiss me. But when he tried to move away, I grabbed his lapels and deepened the moment. He grasped the back of my head and angled his mouth over mine, thrusting his tongue between my lips.
“I can’t get caught up in you,” he growled. “Even though I want to.”
“I’ll be here when you get back,” I whispered, pecking his lips one final time.
He let me go, and I sank back down onto the bed.
Viper stroked a hand down my bare spine before standing up and heading for the door.
“Love you, Sutton,” he said gruffly.
“I love you too.”
The door closed with a quiet snick. It wasn’t until I heard the motorcycle engines die off that I decided I wouldn’t be going back to bed. I’d wait up until dawn for him to come home if I had to.
With a sigh, I heaved myself out of bed. I threw on a pair of leggings and one of Viper’s T-shirts. I brought it to my nose and inhaled, wishing he was still with me.
The clubhouse was silent. There hadn’t been a party in several weeks, and I wondered when things would get back to normal. It seemed like everyone was laying low, staying close to home even though there had been no rumblings from the cartel.
