“Fuck, I hurt you.”
“No,” she insisted. “Just…tender.”
I kissed her shoulder and rolled out of bed. “Stay there.”
She nodded and closed her eyes.
I went into the bathroom and cleaned myself up and then I drew her a bath. I lit the candles that she’d bought a few weeks ago. She always used them when she soaked in the tub.
When I went back into the bedroom, she was still in the position I’d left her.
“Sutton?”
“Hmm?”
“You didn’t fall asleep—good.”
“No.” She yawned and hastily covered her mouth. “Almost though.”
I took her hand and tugged her off the bed.
“Well, that’s new,” she said.
“What is?”
“I’m leaking you from a different orifice.”
I barked out a laugh and led her into the bathroom.
“What did you do?” she asked with a smile.
“I thought you’d hear it from the bedroom. Bath time.” I helped her into the tub so she wouldn’t slip.
“Are you joining me?” she asked. She twirled her hair up to the top of her head.
“Try and stop me.”
She scooted toward the faucet to give me more room. I climbed in behind her and then gently eased her back, so she rested against my chest.
When the tub was full enough, she leaned forward and turned off the water before settling back against me. “This is nice.” She sighed.
“Very.”
My hand snaked down her body to rest on her belly.
“Viper? Can I ask you something?”
“Yeah.”
She paused before she asked, “Were you upset the pregnancy test was negative?”
“Truth?”
“Yes. The truth.”
I took my other hand out of the water and gently rubbed her neck. “I wasn’t upset. Disappointed is a better word. And to be honest, I didn’t think I’d feel that way.”
“Oh.”
