“It wasn’t the same for you, was it?”
“No. I was relieved. But it did…make me wonder, you know?”
“Sure.”
She covered my hand with hers. “I must be crazy. We, like,justgot together. And all I’m thinking about is a little grumpy, handsome baby with your eyes and frown lines.”
I chuckled. “Or we could have a bratty baby whose first word is fuck.”
“That’s a possibility too,” she said.
“I told you I’d wait until you were ready. If you need more time, I’ll give you that. I’ll never say no to you.”
“What if I get ready? I’m due for another birth control shot in a few months. What if…”
“What if?”
“What if I don’t get it?” She lifted herself up off me and turned her body halfway around so she could look me in the eyes.
“You sure this is what you want?”
She nodded and smiled, her lips trembling with emotion.
I grasped the back of her neck and pulled her lips toward mine. I covered her mouth and kissed her breathless.
“Was that a yes?” she gasped when I released her.
“That wasn’t a yes. That was afuck yes.”
“You want a baby with me?” Sutton raised her hand and cradled my cheek.
“Yeah, babe. I want a baby with you.”
She stood up, water sluicing down her body, and then she turned all the way around before lowering herself on top of me.
Her fingers traced the ink that I’d asked Roman to manipulate. It was no longer a prison tattoo, but a heart lock with a key sticking out of it. Sutton’s name was written on the side of the key.
“Give me a baby, Viper.”
“Babe,” I whispered.
“Let’s make something that’s a little bit of both of us. Let’s love the shit out of our lives. We only get one, you know?”
“I’ll give you a baby,” I said. “But you gotta give me something in return.”
She arched a brow. “A negotiation? I thought we both wanted a baby.”
My expression sobered. “Take my last name. Let’s make it legal.”
“Why, Viper, I had no idea you were so incredibly old fashioned.”
I cradled her head and pulled her toward me. “I want to protect you in all the ways I can. I want to love you forever. By giving you my last name, I can do that.”
Her gaze softened. “Always a protector, aren’t you?”
“I’ll never stop,” I promised. “I’ll never stop protecting you.”
“As far as I’m concerned, you just spoke your wedding vows.” She grinned. “Okay, I’ll makeyoua deal…”
“More negotiations?” I teased.
“The moment we find out I’m pregnant, I’ll marry you.”
My hand slipped between our bodies, and I stroked her. Sutton’s eye lids fluttered in pleasure.
“Guess I’d better get busy then.”
She leaned over and pressed her lips to mine and sighed. “Yeah, you’d better.”
