“Yep. Would it have worked?”

“I’m a dude. Of course, it would’ve worked.”

“I’ll remember that for next time.” I put the helmet on my head. “Though, for the record, I won’t be surprising you with shit, because frankly I don’t want another knife at my throat. It would’ve been nice if Savage had warned me about that.”

Viper straddled his bike. “Savage doesn’t know.”

“Oh.” I frowned. “Viper? Whydoyou sleep with knife under your pillow?”

“Why do you own a pistol?”

“Fair enough.”

It felt like there was more to the story, but Viper was clearly done with the topic because he cranked the engine of his bike and waited for me to climb on.

A hiss of air escaped my lips when I spread my legs across the seat and scooted up behind him. I was more tender than I realized.

The gates of the clubhouse opened, and we drove through. There was something about being on a motorcycle with Viper. Every feeling and concern I had was shoved out of my head and left behind on the asphalt. It felt like I was escaping all of my troubles.

It was ridiculous, of course. But for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel like I had to handle my problems on my own.

Viper pulled into a parking lot and cut the engine. I gingerly swung my leg over the seat and removed my helmet.

“Where’d you bring me?” I asked.

“French café.”

I raised my brows. “You brought me to a French café?”

“Yeah. What’s wrong? You don’t like French food?”

“A diner would’ve been fine.”

“Some of the Old Ladies love this place.” He shrugged. “They’ve talked about it enough. So I thought, why the fuck not?”

I bit my lip, but it didn’t stop my smile.

“What?” he growled.

“Nothing.”

Before he could get off his bike, I went to him and wrapped my arms around his neck.

He settled his large hands on my hips and stared into my eyes.

“Thanks,” I said quietly before brushing my mouth across his.

Viper stilled for a moment and then he angled his lips and thrust his tongue into my mouth and pulled me closer.

When he lifted his head from mine, his eyes were dark and needy. “Let’s get some food,” he rasped.

Nodding, I stepped back and waited for him to get off his bike before we went into the restaurant.

A hostess stood at the entrance. She smiled at me. “Welcome to La Creperie.” Her gaze flitted to Viper and her smile faltered.

“Two please.” I quickly wrapped my arm around his middle, sidling up close to him.

He immediately slung a heavy arm across my shoulder.
