“Right this way,” the hostess said, grabbing two menus.

I tried to let go of Viper to follow her, but when I attempted to move away, he pulled me back into his side.

He finally let me go when we got to the table. I slid into the booth, and he sat down across from me.

“Didn’t take you for the PDA type,” I said, reaching for my menu and flipping it open to the first page.

“I’m not the PDA type.”

I raised my brows. “No? Throwing your arm around me and not letting me go was younotbeing the PDA type?”

He frowned. “What are you getting?”

“Don’t know yet,” I said. “And stop trying to change the subject.”

“People can’t hide how they feel about shit,” he said. “You think I don’t see women flinch when they look at me?”

“Viper,” I murmured.

“It doesn’t hurt my feelings,” he stated immediately. “It’s not about that. But you saw it too—how the waitress stared at me.”

“She’s a hostess,” I corrected.

“Hostess, waitress, they’re all the same. You’re not. And you wrapping your arm around me was a giantfuck you.Like I said, I like your sass.”

I smiled slightly. “You’re not that scary.”

He raised his brows. “You didn’t want to go with me the night we met.”

“Because I didn’t know you,” I said. “Not because I was scared of you.”

“Huh.” He cracked his knuckles. “I better work on that then.”

“Good morning,” the server said as she appeared at our table. “Something to drink for you?”

“Coffee, please. With a lot of room for cream and sugar,” I said.

“Black coffee for me,” Viper responded.

“And have you had time to look things over?” she asked.

I glanced down at the menu and skipped over all the egg dishes and went straight to the crepes. “I’ll have the chocolatiest crepe. Whatever that is.”

The server smiled. “Got it. And for you…sir?”

“The meat lover’s crepe.” He handed her the menu, and she took mine before sweeping away.

Viper and I sat in silence while we waited for the coffees to be brought out. His gaze was intense as he stared at me, and I was doing everything possible not to look at him.

“Why are you being weird?” Viper finally asked.

“I’m not being weird.”

“Liar.”

I rolled my eyes.

“You think too much.”
