“Well, we’re gonna. Jesus, if I’d known…”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “If you’d known what? You wouldn’t have jumped into bed with me?”

He shook his head. “I would’ve been gentler with you.”

I blinked a few times. “You were plenty gentle. And, ah, thorough. Both last night and this morning.”

Viper’s grin was slow.

“Stop looking so pleased with yourself,” I muttered. “It’s unbecoming.”

“You’re the one who was pleased,” he pointed out.

“Oh my God, stop.”

“Who was he?”

I frowned. “Who?”

“The other guy.”

“I really don’t want to talk about him.”

“Was he a shit to you?” he demanded. “Because if he fucking treated you badly—”

“You think I’d stand for that?” I raised my brows. “No. He didn’t treat me badly. He just wasn’t very good. In the way that you’re good. We were together for a little while and then we weren’t. I can see the wheels in your head spinning. I’m not answering any more of your questions.”

“Just answer one last question, and then I’ll drop it.”

I waited.

“You barely know me.”

“That’s not a question,” I pointed out.

“You barely know me, and yet you were all backbone and sass and fucking bravado. You put on a good show. But why did you sleep with me?”

“Because I wanted to. Plain and simple.”

He frowned.

I rolled my eyes. “For fuck’s sake, Viper. You were bitching about our age difference and that solidified it for me. I knew you’d have experience. And look at you. I knew it would be amazing. Stop trying to make this a bigger thing than it is.”

“That fucker was shit in bed, wasn’t he?” he asked. “Well, of course he was. He never went down on you, did he?”

“Ah,” the server said, looking flustered and holding two plates of food. “Here we go.”

“Thanks,” I said with a sigh.

“Can I get you anything else?” the server asked, her cheeks flaming red.

“Nope. We’re good,” I said.

“I’d like hot—”

“We’re good,” I interrupted Viper.

“Right, enjoy.” The server scampered away.
