“Ithinktoo much?”

He nodded. “Yep.”

“What makes you think I’m thinking?”

“Aren’t you?”

I bit my lip and nodded.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked, his mouth stamped with the faintest trace of amusement.

“Starting my new job tonight,” I lied.

“Try again.”

“Try again, what?” I demanded.

“You’re not worried about the job. So, what is it you’re really worried about?”

The server appeared briefly to drop off our coffees. She left, and I dumped sugar and cream into my mug and stirred it.

“Two days ago, I was living alone in a trailer park. Now I’m living in a biker clubhouse, having premarital relations with you. Just strange.”

“Any second thoughts?” he asked.

“Hmm. No.” My cheeks flushed. “It was really good morning. Knife to the throat notwithstanding.”

“I’m starting to think you have no self-preservation.”

“I’ve always had more balls than brains,” I quipped. “I’m also anask for forgiveness not permissionkind of gal.”

“Leading with your emotions can do a lot of damage,” he said.

“Leading with my emotions got you into bed,” I pointed out. “By the way, you were ridiculously easy to get into bed. Crumbled like a paper napkin the moment I shoved my boobs in your face.”

“They’re nice boobs.” He shrugged.

“Nice?” I raised my brows. “Earmuffs arenice.”

“You want to talk about crumbling like a paper napkin?” He smirked. “You wanted me the second you met me, which was two days ago.”

“Are you—is this youflirting?”

“Maybe.”

“What will we tell the grandkids?” I jested. “We can’t tell them how we met, or that you were really easy. Speaking of easy, is this your MO? Find a woman, pretend you don’t want her, and then she throws herself at you?”

“I don’t want to talk about me, I want to talk about you. How many men have you been with?”

“Does it matter?” I asked. “Whether I’ve been with two men or two hundred?”

Viper stared at me a while, his eyes suddenly bright. “You’ve only been with two men.”

“What? Of course not,” I lied. “Why would you think that?”

“You’ve only been with two men,” he said again slowly. He leaned back in his seat. “Christ, when you said it had been months since you were with someone else…wait, am I really only the second man you’ve been with?”

“I don’t want to be talking about this,” I hissed.
