“No. Why?”

“Just wondering if you had her address. I’d like to write her a thank-you note. She clearly taught you well.”

He looped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his side. “You’re a fucking handful, you know that?”

“I know it. Can I ask you something?”

“More? There’s more?” he teased.

“You’re different.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you’re growly and surly and you hardly say two words to your brothers. But with me, you’re…talkative.”

“Don’t read into it.”

“Well, I’m gonna. You could just keep your mouth shut and tell me to get on your bike and keep your distance from me, you know? But you didn’t. You don’t.”

“I’m starting to regret that decision.”

I elbowed him in the ribs, causing him to grunt and then laugh.

“Just for that, you get to take me to the store. I’ve got to buy an energy drink or something. No way I’m going to make it through a shift tonight without a huge dose of caffeine.”

We got to his bike, and he turned me to him. He gently skimmed his thumbs under my eyes. “You didn’t sleep well.”

“That noticeable, huh?”

“Little bit.” He leaned down and gently bit my ear. “You could always take a nap.”

“Yeah.” I snorted. “I have an idea of the type of nap you want.”

“Mine is more fun. I promise to let you sleep…after. And I’ll wake you with more than enough time to eat and get ready for your first shift.”

“Look at you, thinking of my needs.” I smirked.

He moved his body, his erection pressing against me. “I might be thinking about my needs, too.”

Chapter15

“Well, I think that’s everything,”Mia said as we moved behind the bar. “Oh. If a customer gets fresh or handsy, you’re absolutely allowed to use the water gun and hose him down.”

I sniggered. “Seriously?”

The sassy brunette smiled. “Seriously.”

“You might be the best boss ever.”

“I try,” she said with a laugh. “If you have any questions, just ask. But if you’re quick on your feet, you’ll be fine. And because it’s your first night, you get to pick the first song on the brand-new jukebox. Just no country.”

“What makes you think I’d choose country?” I asked with sham innocence.

“I dunno. Maybe it’s the daisy dukes…”

“Or the cowboy boots?”

“Yeah, those, too.” Mia glanced at the corner of the bar where Viper had commandeered a stool an hour earlier when we’d arrived. The bar technically wasn’t open yet, but Viper wasn’t leaving.
