“I like her,” Willa said. “Hey, what are you doing tomorrow night? Are you working?”
“I don’t know. Mia hasn’t given me a schedule.” I glanced at Mia.
“I wanted to see how you handled yourself,” Mia admitted. “But I think I can toss you right into the deep end. You good to work Friday and Saturday nights?”
“Fuck yeah,” I said.
“Great.” Mia nodded.
“That means you’re not working tomorrow,” Willa said. “So, come to our place for dinner. You and Viper.”
“Oh yeah, you have to come,” Duke said.
I looked at Savage, and he nodded.
“Uh, okay. Thanks. You want to tell Viper, or should I?”
“I’ll tell him,” Savage said.
“And I’ll wait to get the details until tomorrow.” Willa winked. She took the club soda and moved away from the bar, Savage and Duke trailing behind her.
“You’ve done it now,” Mia said. She picked up a bottle of tequila from the well and poured two shots.
“Done what?” I asked in confusion.
She handed me a shot and picked up the other. “Piqued the Old Ladies’ interest. They will descend upon thee, offering libations and feasts so they may partake in a time-honored tradition of gossip.”
I paused for a moment. “They want the scoop on my not-a-real relationship with Viper?”
She grinned and clinked her glass against mine. “Cheers.”

“I want pizza.”
Viper cracked a smile. “You’re bouncing.”
“It’s the B vitamins. Shouldn’t have had that third energy drink. I might be awake until dawn.”
It was just past two in the morning. Mia had shown me how to calculate the money in the till at the end of the night, tallying receipts, and counting to make sure everything matched sales. I hadn’t been responsible for any money at Spurs, so it was new for me.
It wasn’t hard, just different.
“We’ll order when we get back to the clubhouse.”
“Meat lovers with extra cheese.”
“My kind of woman.”
“And anchovies.”
“No way.”
I laughed. “Kidding. I’m just kidding.”
He shook his head and handed me the helmet. “Menace.”
“You’re not going to sit at the bar every night I work, are you?” I asked.
