“Mark me.” I snorted.

He wasn’t a feral, possessive animal, but he definitely reminded me of one. It had only been three days with me, and he was already speaking in full sentences. Maybe it was foolish to think I’d had any sort of effect on him, but I felt like I had.

I turned on the shower and stripped out of the rest of my clothes. What changes had I gone through in the past few days?

Yeah, don’t open that door.

I showered quickly, scrubbing the smell of a night working at a bar from my skin. When I changed into my pajamas, suddenly all the adrenaline poured out of me.

I didn’t even think I’d make it until the pizza came.

There was a subtle knock on the door and a moment later, Viper opened it.

“You look wrecked,” he said.

“I am. I thought I had all this energy. But now I just want to go to bed.”

He stripped off his leather cut. “Then we’ll go to bed.”

“Correction, I want tosleep. Not have sex.”

“Yeah, I know.” He hung up his leather cut on the hook on the back of the door and then proceeded to remove his boots.

“What about the pizza?”

“The guys at the gate will take care of it.” After he placed his pistol on the nightstand, he lifted his shirt over his head, folded it, and set it on top of the dresser.

I blinked at the immaculate display of ink and muscle, and it reminded me that I still hadn’t had the time to explore his tattoos.

He leaned down to brush his lips against mine.

“You have minty breath,” I said.

“I brushed my teeth. I had a feeling you were gonna want to crash.”

“Look at you. You don’t mind sleeping in here?”

“It’s a bed, isn’t it?”

I fell back against the pillows, my eyes half-mast. Viper took off his jeans and set them on top of his shirt. He hit the light and a moment later I felt the covers lift, and he slid in next to me.

“You have enough room?” I asked.

“No. I don’t have enough room.”

When I tried to inch away to give him some more space, he chuckled and then pulled me into his side. “That’s not gonna do much.”

“Ooh, you’re a furnace,” I murmured, my eyes closing. “Keep me warm. I run cold.”

I was just about to drift off to sleep when he murmured, “Nothing cold about you.”

“Viper,” I muttered into the pillow. “Viper!”

He came awake with a start. “Wha—”

“Ow!” I yelled.
