“Shit,” he growled. “What did I do?” The sound of his feet hitting wood echoed in my ears and a light came on.

“You elbowed me,” I said, sitting up.

“What? Where?” He marched back over to the bed and took a seat on the edge. He gently cradled my face in his hands.

“My cheek,” I said. “It’s fine. I’m fine.”

“Which cheek?”

I pointed to the right one and he skimmed a thumb across the apple of it. “I’m sorry,” he said, his tone gruff. “I’m not used to sleeping next to someone.”

I smiled slightly. “Me neither. I was smushed up against the wall.”

“This wouldn’t have happened in my room,” he said. “My bed’s bigger.”

“You don’t have to brag.” I gripped his wrist and gave it a squeeze.

He let me go instantly.

I scooted down off the bed. “What time is it?”

Viper picked up his cell phone and glanced at the screen. “Little after four.”

I rubbed my third eye as I traipsed to the bathroom. When I came back, Viper had moved toward the wall.

“That’s my side,” I said.

“We haven’t slept together long enough to know the sides of the bed yet,” he stated. “So, let’s try it this way.”

I hit the light and then climbed in next to him.

“Sleeping together, take two,” I said. “Good night.”

I quickly fell back asleep, but an hour later, I rolled over and fell off the bed. I hit the ground with a thud.

“What the fuck—Sutton?”

“That’s it.” I gingerly got up and turned on the light. “You’re done.”

“I’m done, what?” he asked in confusion.

“We can’t share a bed. I was on the edge because you sleep diagonally. I rolled over and fell onto the floor.”

“Fuck. I’m sorry. You hurt?”

I absently rubbed my elbow. “I’ll be fine. I need to get some solid sleep. So you gotta go back to your room. We can try this again tomorrow in your bed.”

“Oh, we can, can we?” He got up and slid into his jeans.

“You’re not protesting going back to your own room,” I pointed out.

“Honestly?”

I nodded.

“Honestly, I could use the uninterrupted sleep too.”

“Then we’re in agreement.”
