“Your Dad is a drunk and a thief, but I never said you were in danger from him. You know my cousin is out there waiting to catch us off guard, you’re going to risk your safety just to hide it from me. I told you that I would go with you and wait outside, but you think so little of me that you can’t be bothered to be honest with me.”

“I can’t do this right now, I have to go.” She grabs her things and heads for the door. Chasing after her I grab her wrist spinning her to face me. “You’re just going to run out the fucking door?”

She pulls her wrist from my hand a look of disgust on her face. “I need some space. I think we could both use some. I need you to stay away from me Killian. I’m going to stay at my apartment for a few days.”

“Bella, please don’t. Stay here I will stay at the club. Or at least stay with one of my brothers or Ma. Don’t go back there. I can’t protect you when you’re so far across the city.”

She shakes her head and opens the front door, turning to face me. “I’m going back to the apartment. I will pick up some things later when you’re out. I just need some space to breathe. I can’t be around you right now. Not when you’re this angry. Just give me a few days. Please?”

My body is shaking with anger. Dropping my head to look at the floor I take a few calming breaths, before giving her a nod. “Ok.” I look up just to see her walk out my front door without so much as a glance back at me.

Chapter 22

“Fucking hell.” I jump, spilling my coffee on myself and my desk just missing my laptop, as Killian comes barrelling into the office at the club slamming the door against the wall.

“What has the door or the wall for that matter ever done to you?” I ask. The cocky smirk falls from my face when I see the rage in his. “What’s going on?” I get up from my desk and walk over to his, sitting in the chair opposite. He just shakes his head and pulls out his laptop, slamming at the keys. I reach over grabbing the laptop and pulling it away from him before he does some serious damage.

“I’m gonna keep hold of this until you’ve calmed down a little. Now how about you tell me what’s got you so angry.” I watch him walk over to the sideboard, my eyebrows raise as I watch him pour himself a glass of whiskey. He downs the contents then pours himself another before turning and waving the bottle in my direction. I shake my head. “Nah, it’s way too early for that big brother.” He scoffs at me and walks back to his desk with his glass and the bottle. I’ve never seen Killian like this before so I’m not equipped to deal with this. I pull out my phone to message my brothers, but then remember that Connor is doing something with Alex this morning and Ronan is flying back from Chicago with Dan. They flew out there two days ago to close out some business. They aren’t due to land for another thirty minutes. Leaving me with only one other option. Calling Ma. I sigh slipping my phone back into my pocket. He was there for me when I needed him. Now it’s my turn to be there for him.

“Kill?”

He sighs again and takes a sip of his whiskey. “Bell’s and I got into a huge fight this morning over her Da… she’s gone back to her apartment for a few days.”

“So, he’s still on the scene then?”

“Yeah. She agreed to meet him tomorrow but chose to keep it hidden from me. She said she was gonna tell me after she had seen him. I’m so fucking angry Finn. She knows everyone is in danger while Liam and Vincenzo are out there, and she is willingly putting herself in danger.”

“Wait.” I lean forward in my chair, “how did you find out she was meeting him if she wasn’t planning on telling you until after?”

He downs the last of the liquid in his glass and slams it on the table, I grab the bottle of whiskey and remove it from his reach before he can grab it. He gives me a look like he might wanna hit me right now, but he forgets I’ve had worse from our Da. I raise my eyebrows in challenge. Shaking his head he backs down, leaning back in his chair.

“He was blowing up her phone this morning, I thought maybe it was work, she’s been really busy lately, so I grabbed it to take it up to her with a coffee, but I caught sight of the caller ID… it was her Da calling for the eleventh time. That’s when I checked her messages and saw they had agreed to meet.” He sighs, his elbows hitting the desk as he places his head in his hands.

“I called him a thief and a drunk…”

“Wait, you called her Da a thief and a drunk? Fuck me Killian. She knows he is she doesn’t need the reminder. No wonder she fucking walked out.”

He sighs and indicates for me to hand over the bottle. Shaking my head I move it further out of his reach.

“I know all right. I didn’t mean for it to come out, I was pissed, I just couldn’t control my anger. She just doesn’t seem to get how fucking dangerous he is now that he seems to have ties with Liam and Vincenzo. I don’t know how to make her see sense.”

I get up from the chair and head back to my desk. Saving what I was working on I shut my laptop down and turn to face my brother. My eyebrows furrow when I see his head in his hands again. “Look, let’s call Connor then head on over to the gym, he’ll be done with Alex in an hour or so. I’ll drop Ro a text to meet us there when he lands. You could do with blowing off some steam and I have some information from Brent.”

He looks up at me, surprise showing. I have a moment of panic worrying that he thinks I’m not capable of getting answers, but then I remember this is Killian, he isn’t my Da. He has a lot more faith in me. His surprise is that Brent caved at all. He gives me a nod then gets up from his desk and storms out of the office without waiting for me.

“So, hold up. You’re telling us that our men are betraying us for money?” Connor stands in the middle of the octagon, his hands on his hips as he watches me. I nod and look up at Killian then back to Connor. We’d been doing cardio for over an hour, Killian jumped right in there when Connor arrived, and they’ve been sparing ever since. I’d explained to my brothers what Maxim, Ronan and I had done to Brent and Martin. Connor looked shocked. But all I’d gotten from Killian was a slightly impressed chin lift. He hadn’t reacted much to anything or anyone else. I lean forward on the cage. Connor and Killian step closer to me and Ronan leans with his back to it, watching the room as always. “Apparently, they aren’t the only ones we have to worry about. Brent reckons that we have more of our men betraying us.” I take a deep breath not wanting to reveal the next bit but knowing that I have no choice.

“According to Martin, because we have closed ranks Vincenzo and Liam have agreed that it will be our own men tasked with taking the women…”

“What the fuck?”

“Are you fucking kidding me?”

Killian and Connor scream at me through the cage scrambling to get out, Ronan stands tall stepping forward just as Connor grabs me by my throat and pins me to the cage. “Con, calm down and let him go.”

“Let him go, Ronan? Maybe we should have you in the same position why they fuck would you wait until now to tell us, why the fuck would you tell us like this? My woman…our women are in fucking danger from our own men, and you want me to calm down?”

I don’t move, letting Connor pin me in place. But my eyes are on Killian I see him warring with himself, he’s angry and afraid. I see his eyes begin to change colour, his demon begins to surface, and I give a little cough looking to Ronan. He sees the change and steps in front of Killian.
