I walk over to the table and grab the drill from Finn, hitting the button a couple of times to test the battery. There’s enough charge to inflict the pain I want him to feel. He squirms in his chair when he sees me walk toward him. But it’s no use. He’s too weak to fight, and with each step I take my demon takes another step toward the surface. By the time I reach him the darkness has consumed me. I see nothing but him. I lean over the chair one hand placed on his thigh I hold the tip of the drill to his flesh. Pressing the button I watch the drill bit spin, ripping at the skin, the speed of it twisting throwing it around, blood and skin splashing around us. I know he’s screaming but it’s garbled, like he’s under water. His body convulses with the pain. But I don’t stop. Once the drill hits bones I press even harder, making sure to break through it. I glance at his face, seeing him vomit all over himself seconds before he passes out.

I pull out the drill and take a step back. I feel a bottle of water being placed in my hands and I take a drink not thanking whoever gave me it. I don’t care who it was, my only focus right now is this piece of shit in front of me.

I’m ready to go again with the other thigh, but I’ll give him a minute before bringing him back around. I want to make sure that he gets enough of a break each time. I want him to suffer, just like the others did. He’ll be hoping that he dies soon, but I’ll make sure he won’t. He’s got a lot more to go through before I send him to the gates of hell.

Chapter 45

The guys have been gone since yesterday morning. And while I’m grateful for the space to give me the time I need to plan everything for Sunday. I can’t help but worry about them. I know what they are off doing, we all do. We all know it has to happen, it’s the right thing to do. But I worry that it will eat away at them. I worry about how Killian will cope. He’s taking a step in a very different direction, one I’m not sure he wants to take. I’m not sure any of them want to take it.

As I sit on my laptop booking in fittings for the woman and girls when Maddie climbs onto the sofa next to me. Liv left about twenty minutes after the guys. I know Killian called her to be there for Ronan. Maddie has been quiet since they both left.

“Hey Princess. How you doing?”

“I’m ok Aunt Bella.” She gives me a little smile then curls into my side watching me place the booking.

“Are you sure you’re ok? Do you want to talk?”

“I miss mommy and daddy. Are they coming home soon?” She looks up at me, sadness in her eyes. I close my laptop and place it on the table then pull her into my lap.

“They’ll be home soon, they just have a few things to do. Tell you what, how about we bake some cookies for when they get back?”

“Ok.” She goes to get up, but I pull her back into me.

“Hey. They will be back. Your mommy has to be back for nine am tomorrow morning, we all have an appointment we need to get to.”

“But what if…”

“She’ll be there. Now how about we go bake those cookies and you can tell me about school and if you’re still being picked on.”

I spent four hours in the kitchen with Maddie baking an array of things. It took me the first hour to even get her to try and talk to me just a little bit. But by the time we had finished she told me that the kids were still picking on her and she didn’t want to go to school anymore. Dan and Roger, her security had heard every word, I’d seen their faces when they realised how upset she was having them follow her around. Protecting her might be their job, but she’s family to them. Everyone that works for the Syndicate is family so when one of us hurt, they all feel it. She doesn’t want me to tell Liv or Ronan, but I know I can’t keep it from them. Not when she is so upset.

“Hey girl. You ok?” I smile as Alex takes a seat next to me on the sofa.

“Hey. Yeah. I’m good. You?”

“Mmmm hmmm. Did I hear right earlier? Is Maddie being bullied?” I nod, then let out a sigh just as Cara walk’s in with glasses of wine.

“Isn’t it a little early for this?” Alex asks causing me to laugh as she still takes the glass from Cara. I kick my feet up on the table as Cara sits in the large cuddle seat in the corner.

“So did I hear right Maddie is being bullied?”

I sigh and tip my head back on the sofa. “She’s gonna kill me. I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone.”

“I mean you didn’t technically tell anyone, I overheard you guys talking in the kitchen and Cara just heard us talking. You gonna tell Liv and Ronan?”

“Oh.” I turn to look at Cara.

“Oh? Oh what?”

She takes a sip of her wine and then smiles, “I would hate the be the parents of those kids when Ronan finds out.”

She’s right, he’s going to kill them. I look to Alex then back to Cara. “I’ll be there when you tell them. And then I can help Maddie. I grew up in this life, so I know what it’s like to have a tonne of security following you around at school. It’s not fun and the kids around you can be mean.”

“Thanks Cara.” She smiles flicking the tv on to some chick flick that none of us watch.
