“What? Just being honest.”

“Good. Be honest with Michael, too.”

“What does one have to do with the other?”

“Did you tell him how you felt about his lack of enthusiasm?” Andrew crossed his arms, lips drawn in a tight line.

“Yeah, I told him it didn’t seem like he was too excited for me to be home.”

“That’s not what I asked. Did you tell him how you felt about it?”

I couldn’t think of anything to say. Andrew nodded, his mouth forming an even more grim line, as if my silence said everything. “Exactly. You have no problem telling me just how you feel about me. If he is truly the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, don’t you think you should do the same with him?”

“I guess.”

“You guess?”

“Okay, fine, yes.”

“Don’t you want to grow into a more vulnerable person?”

I snorted. “No.” Andrew raised one eyebrow. I rolled my eyes and sighed. “Okay, fine, maybe I need to work on being more vulnerable with Michael, at least.”

“Yes, Ace, you do.” He pulled on his face with his fingers and let out an even longer sigh. “Listen, what you do within your own romantic relationships is, ultimately, your business. But delve deep. Ask yourself: do I feel better when I share my true self with Michael, or when I keep it locked away? Then, you’ll know what to do.”

I hated to admit it, but I knew he was right.
