“I did. So, listen to me.”

Her lips pursed in contemplation. “Maybe I will.”

“Good.”

“Good,” she repeated, and for a split second I noticed that sparkle in her eye she used to have when my father was alive.

“Where’s Martine?” I asked.

“His office. He said he had a meeting and was not to be bothered.”

“I’d like to say hello,” I said.

“Say hello? Since when do you care to say hello to him?”

I shrugged. “Maybe I’ve changed since being away from this place.”

“Well, for what it’s worth, I like the change.”

I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl in the center of the island and bit into it. “Noted.” With that, I walked out feeling a little lighter.

CHAPTER 47

Seren

“Hey,” Saint said, greeting me in the hallway. “Welcome home.”

“I’d like to say it’s good to be home, but…you know.”

“You see Sawyer yet?” he asked.

“Heading there now,” I said as we climbed the steps together to the second floor. I knocked once before pushing open his door.

“Hey,” Sawyer said, stepping out of his bathroom.

“You ready for this?” I asked the two of them.

“Damn straight we are,” Saint said.

“Just follow my lead,” I said.

“You got it,” Sawyer said.

We climbed the stairs to the third floor. The door to Martine’s office was closed. I pounded with the side of my fist.

“I’m in a meeting!” he bellowed.

I threw open the door, letting it slam against the wall behind it.

Martine sat behind his desk. His eyes stretched wide with confusion as the three of us stepped inside. I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be to see him after what I’d learned. Self-control in this situation was key, but I was now more determined than ever before to take down the man responsible for my father’s death.

“Martine? Are you there?” a voice asked from his computer screen.

“I’ve gotta call you back,” he said before clicking a few buttons then looking back at me. “Seren? When did you get home?”

“A few minutes ago,” I said, dropping into one of the leather chairs across from him.

Martine watched in confusion as Saint walked to the bookshelf at the side of the office and leaned his ass against it, while Sawyer took a seat in the chair beside me. “To what do I owe this pleasure?” he asked us.
