“I said, ‘Fucking drink it!’” I screamed in Martine’s face, my voice echoing through the room.

Martine’s eyes shot away from me.

“Here,” I said, lifting the bottle toward his lips. “I’ll hold your mouth open and youwilldrink it.”

His lips stayed pressed firmly together, and he moved his face away.

“What’s going on in here?” my mother asked.

I looked to the doorway where she stood taking in the crazy scene that was transpiring in her husband’s office.

“You tell her,” I ordered Martine.

“Tell me what?” she asked, the desperation in her voice there for all to hear.

“There’s been a mistake,” Martine said.

I scoffed. “He killed our father.”

She clasped her hand over her mouth.

“And he’s been slowly poisoning you,” I explained.

Her hand remained over her mouth as tears glazed her eyes.

“He’s lying,” Martine argued.

“Prove it! Drink the fucking water!” I pushed it toward his mouth.

“Martine?” my mother finally said. “Is this the truth?”

“No,” he snapped.

“Then do what he’s asking. Prove it,” she said.

He looked away from her, and that’s all I needed. I placed the water down on his desk, pulled off the rubber gloves, and looked to Sawyer. “Turn off your camera now.”

He did.

I pounced, grabbing Martine by the front of his shirt. The cops stepped back as I slammed him into the closest wall, his head bouncing off it. They would’ve done the same thing if someone killed their father.

I heard my mother scream, but I blocked it out.

“What are you doing?” Martine cried.

“You know exactly what I’m doing.”

And as if he were Jekyll and Hyde, his lips twitched and a devilish sneer swept across his face. “Your father always said you were the smart one.”

At the mention of my father, I slammed my fist into his stomach. He made to bend, but my forearm held him at his throat. “Don’t you dare mention him in this house, you sick son of a bitch.”

“What are you gonna do? Kill me?” he asked with an air of arrogance.

“An eye for an eye,” I said, pressing my forearm harder against his neck.

Sardonic laughter erupted from somewhere deep inside of him.

“You think this is funny?” I said through gritted teeth.
