Also, coffee smelled like rotten eggs for some reason. I had puked the other day but didn’t tell my mates. I didn’t want them to worry.

“Yesterday, you said you no longer liked peanut butter, Liv.”

I nodded at Justice’s statement.

“And, this week, you’ve been tired, and I noticed you were a bit breathless last night. And um, extra needy, if you know what I mean.”

“Her needs a vacation,” Koby said and stabbed his sweet potato pancake.

Koby cracked me up, daily. It had been six months since I was thoroughly mated by Sloan and Justice. The day they made me theirs was one of the best days of my life. As was the marking the night after the hike.

I began to teach Koby some things in preparation for preschool. Numbers. Letters, etc. He took to it all so quickly. He was smart as a whip.

“I’ve also been tired. I wonder what…”

All grown-ups snapped to attention as though the notion had hit us all at once. “I need to go to the store,” I said, scrambling to get up and failing. Ugh, I was so clumsy lately. Gods, my mom used to call that the prego dropsies.

“I will run to the store, mate. Please sit down before you hurt yourself and maybe others,” Sloan said, a smile playing at his lips. He kissed me long and hard before leaving.

He was happy at the prospect of me being pregnant.

Imagine if I was carrying their cub.

Did I want that? I hadn’t done anything to protect myself from it. A baby of my own was certainly a wish in my heart, but so soon?

I got up and went to sit in Justice’s lap, needing comfort. He pulled my legs up and nestled me against his chest. “Everything is going to be okay. Either way, Livvy. You belong to us, and it will all be okay. Are you upset that you might be pregnant? Are you sad or scared?”

I shook my head. “I don’t know what I am. It’s only been seconds since the idea came up. I mean, I want to have your young. I want to give birth. Koby is mine, but you know what I mean.”

“I do and we would both love for you to have our babe. Let’s try to stay calm. Sloan will be back soon. How you doing over there on those pancakes, cub?”

Koby picked up his plate and showed that he was done. “Can I have yogurt? And honey almonds?”

The kid knew what he wanted. I sprang into action, needing something to do with my nervousness. Sloan came back, and I ran to him, grabbed the bag, and then sprinted upstairs.

They didn’t come with me, which I thanked the goddess for. They gave me space when I needed it.

I read the instructions haphazardly and peed on the stick and then washed my hands before setting the timer. My family was downstairs, but they were eerily quiet.

Closing my eyes, I sat on the edge of the tub and waited. My panther moved inside me. She knew what the answer was and, honestly, I did, too. I carried Sloan and Justice’s young inside me.

I’d never been happier in my life.

I picked up the stick with the two pink lines and went downstairs. Sloan and Justice both stood like I was the damned queen.

“You’re killing us, female,” Justice said in that low tone that made my core hum.

I nodded and smiled. Waited for their reaction. Maybe it was too soon. They had a toddler already. Maybe they didn’t want more kids.

Maybe…I held up the stick.

Justice was the first to walk over and lift me in his arms. He was chuckling and already tears streamed down his eyes. “Do you know how happy you’ve made us, mate? I can barely contain it.”

Sloan was next. He took me from Justice’s arms and spun me around, which didn’t help with the nausea.

“This is okay?” I asked both of them.

“This is a dream, mate.”
