“Sgt. Jeffers.”

“Why?”

"He wanted us to rough him up and find out what he knew about Vic Storm. When he arrived home, he sensed something was up and drew his gun before entering his home. We didn't want to get shot, so we took off." He looked really unsure of himself as he shared the information, but self-preservation pushed him to finish.

“What’s Jeffers business with Vic?” Parc was getting more than he bargained for and had no clue as to how to present this to his mate.

“They’re both working for those new people in town. A Coven from Columbus is looking to do business around here.” He wasn’t telling him everything.

"You and your friend are working with Vic and Jeffers to help Dominion take over the strip?" Parc made the statement, and the vampire started shaking his head vigorously, but it was clear they were all working together.

"We were just hired to scare that cop." He scrambled to his feet. Parc stepped back.

"Grab your friend and get out of town. If I see or hear of you still operating around here, I will find you and kill you." Parc made every word count. The vampire pulled his friend's head out of the door and slapped him a few times to wake him up before half-carrying him to the back door. When he got there, he stopped and turned back to address Parc.

"They have more people and more power than you guys. If they want to take you over, they will succeed." He wasn’t being boastful. His warning was legitimate, but Parc did not respond. He gave him the same hard stare until he took his friend and left.

Parc returned to his car to find it untouched, and as he was getting inside, his phone rang. "Hello, miss me already?" He asked, and his tone lightened considerably. Getting a call from Danny was just what he needed after dealing with the trash at Neon.

“I missed you the moment you walked out the door.” Danny played it up.

"Get your doors fixed, alarm installed, and cameras mounted?" He ran down the jobs to be done.

"Everything is done. Just finish with the alarm, and then I'll try to get some sleep." Danny paused for a moment before continuing; an uncertainty was clouding his tone. "Are you okay?" He stammered a little. "I got a strange sense or feeling that you were in trouble, and it wouldn't let me go." Parc realized that his run-in with the vampires and the resulting dust-up had been felt by his mate. They were connecting sufficiently for Danny to experience his emotions. This was good and meant he needed to claim his mate very soon.

"I'm fine. I had a run-in with some guys, but it was settled, and it's nothing to be concerned about. You must be getting a bit psychic." Parc didn't want to lie to his mate, so he tried to laugh it off.

“Do you need my help?” Danny was not laughing. He was serious.

"It was nothing." Parc insisted, and Danny backed off. "Now get some rest, and I'll see you at seven."

"Would you mind having dinner here at my place? I'm not comfortable leaving it empty so soon after the suspected break-in." Danny's request was understandable and not a problem.

“I’ll bring dinner.”

"I'm falling for you, Parc; I just thought you should know that in case you want to make a run for it." He laughed.

"I'm right there with you, Danny, never thought I'd develop feelings for a cop, but here we are." Parc loved the easy banter.

"See you at seven and wear something sexy." Danny's request came out deep and suggestive, and Parc loved it.

"Wear those faded jeans you had on yesterday. I loved the way they cupped your sweet ass." Parc laid it on thick.

“We better say goodbye before I get too hot and bothered to get any sleep.”

"Rest, my love; see you soon." With that, he closed the call and smiled all the way back to the Club. Thoughts of Danny and dinner and what he had planned for later rushed his mind, and waiting seemed, once again, impossible.

Danny headed upstairs to his bedroom once the locksmith had finished and left. He had the locks engaged along with the new alarm and had the cameras in place, one in front and one in back. It took a while to relax enough to sleep after the events of the morning, but he managed to get a few hours. He was off for the next two days, so he could catch up later.

His mind was busy with who was in his house and why, but over that was the pleasant thoughts of Parc coming to dinner tonight and what the evening might hold. He had hopes and ideas, and he was pretty certain they would all be fulfilled.

Parc had sounded preoccupied when he called him very pleasing and agreeable but a little preoccupied. Danny wondered what was weighing on his mind but did not ponder the possibilities too long because his attention was captured by a sound outside.

He sat up and listened. He heard it again. Someone was at his door. They weren't using the doorbell, which was suspicious in itself but rather twisting the nob and testing the door. Danny grabbed his gun and headed downstairs.

He made his way to the front of the house and looked out the side window that gave him a view of the porch. There was someone there, short, flamboyant, and familiar. He was at the Club during the raid; he was a customer. His dark eyes and hair against shockingly white skin had caught Danny's attention that night.

Danny in the waistband of his jeans at his back and opened the door before the man could leave. He clearly caught him by surprise. “What do you want?” Danny stated not in the mood to be cordial. The guy shifted from one leg to the other and glanced back and forth. His discomfort at being confronted was clear. "Why are you here?" Danny barked and took a step toward him.
