"We are meant to be. We are one." Parc spoke softly and eased Danny down onto his back, and carefully pulled out. "Lay still, and let me clean you up." He said, and Danny nodded, suddenly seeming too exhausted to speak.

Parc washed him up with a warm, wet washcloth from the adjoining bath and then tossed the washcloth into the hamper by the bathroom door before lying down next to his mate. He looked at the scar, and it was nicely healed over. Danny reached up and touched it and jerked, feeling the slight electric shock that coursed through him.

"You bit me." He said with a smile. "I'm not complaining. It was quite erotic. I enjoyed it, to be honest." Parc wanted to tell him everything, but the time did not seem right. He wanted to enjoy this time together without question or confusion, so he bundled Danny into his arms and covered them with the blanket from the foot of the bed.

"Rest for a while, and then we'll talk." He suggested, and Danny did not fight him on that. Soon he was fast asleep in Parc's arms.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Danny was having a dream about a black wolf, a sleek, fierce, powerful black wolf. His eyes were black, but he saw everything, and he was staring at Danny. He watched his every move following, tracking him with his eyes. There was no escape. The knowledge did not frighten him but rather excited him. The wolf belonged to him.

He came awake with his head resting on Parc's shoulder and his arm and leg draped across him. Parc was so warm, and having him close made everything seem okay. Danny felt safe in his arms. He was falling in love even though it was a crazy thing to do with no guarantees; he couldn't help it. Parc was the man he wanted. He noticed that Parc, too, was awake, and he was watching him.

“Did you sleep well?” He asked and kissed the side of his head and pulled him a little tighter into his arms.

“Yes, I slept very well.” Danny snuggled a little closer. “I had a dream about a black wolf, and he seemed so familiar like he was someone I knew. We were in the forest, and he came walking up to me, and I wasn't afraid even though he was huge. It was a strange dream but oddly comforting." He chuckled softly. "You have any dreams?"

“My dream is right here in my arms.”

“You say the sweetest things.”

“Always.”

"Do you believe in vampires and werewolves?" Danny had been thinking about the myths ever since moving to Cincinnati. There was talk of the paranormal existing in pockets throughout the city, and at first, he thought it absurd, but then things happen, and you start to ponder the possibilities. Parc didn't answer him right away, and he began to think that perhaps he thought him daft.

“Yes, I do.” He responded suddenly and was about to say more when a crash sounded from the first floor. The alarm went off but was silenced almost immediately. Parc was on his feet, and Danny was on the side of the bed reaching for his gun when the bedroom door burst open.

Two men rushed inside, followed by Victory Storm. They stopped and observed the scene and stepped back, letting Vic step forward. The little twat looked smug for some reason, and Danny didn't like the interest he was paying to Parc. They were both naked, having just jumped out of bed, and Parc was very much a feast for the eyes.

He wished he could somehow step in front of Parc, but the man had positioned himself in front and to the right of him. It would appear Parc had the same protective instinct, but Danny had a gun, and Parc was unarmed.

"Well, what do we have here? The Mercer Pack Beta and a Police Officer. Now that is a surprise." Vic tried to taunt, but his high-pitched voice and his slight stature made his goading rather ineffective. He sneered at Danny’s gun and told him it was useless. Neither Danny nor Parc reacted. Danny was wondering what a Mercer Pack Beta was, but he’d ask Parc later.

“We can’t have the two of you prying into our business and interfering with our plans. Master Anton is counting on me and Mitch to clear the way for him.” Vic looked at Danny when he said Mitch as if it had some meaning, and then he laughed like he had just told a joke. Danny was fast losing his patience. He then turned his attention to Parc, and his demeanor turned nasty.

“I saw you two last night outside the Club.” He said and paused. “I know what he means to you, and I wasn't planning on killing him, only you, but Mitch wants you both dead. He likes to be proactive rather than have to clean up later." Vic chuckled, but Parc said nothing. His stance became tense, and Danny could feel a strange energy crackling through the air.

The man on Vic’s left began to change his body seemed to be morphing into something inhuman. Danny was transfixed by the sight until Parc turned his head and spoke.

"I love you, Danny, please trust me" His words were emotionally laden, a heartfelt plea, and they struck Danny in his heart, and in that moment, everything changed. Electricity filled the room, a power swept through them, and Parc changed from a tall, handsome, muscular man to a massive black wolf. It was impossible, but Danny had watched it all. He stepped back as if in a haze of confusion, still pointing his gun at the melee before him, but he was not sure what it was that he was watching.

Parc pushed everything he had into those few words begging for understanding and professing his love. He saw the confusion on his face, but he also saw such sweet compassion. He had to protect him and to do so, he had to shift right there in front of his mate. One of the vampires from that morning was standing to Vic's right, and to his left was a wolf shifter.

They intended to kill, and Parc would make sure that did not happen. The wolf began to shift, and Parc did likewise, and the battle was on. The vampire tried to insert himself into it but finally stepped back and let the wolves go at it. His plan was to go after Danny once Parc was finished, and the hunger on his face was disgusting.

Parc tore into the wolf, shredding his hind leg when he attempted to roll Parc's huge body and ended up under him. He tried to run, but Parc caught him by the back leg and did not let go. He then tried to turn on him, curling and twisting to get loose and clawing at Parc's upper body, but Parc was twice the size of this gray, and he had rage feeding his anger, and the attack was supercharged. Parc's wolf was hyper-focused on the death of all the intruders who threatened his mate.

The vampire took a step closer to the door, suddenly realizing that success was not guaranteed. Vic had stepped out as soon as the shift began and was probably as far away as he could get by this time, but Parc would find him his wolf would deal with Victory Storm.

The gray lost control and began fighting frantically, which was the beginning of the end for this wolf. Parc pinned him to the floor and sunk his teeth into his throat, and locked on. He was not getting away. With a twist of his head, Parc tore out the wolf's throat, killing him instantly. He turned to the vampire, who did not have the intelligence to run sooner. He held out hope that Danny would be his, but he grossly misjudged the power and determination of a mated wolf.

He tried to run, but Parc took him out on the stairs leaping onto his back and rolling him to the base, where he treated him much as he had the gray. He ripped through the delicate flesh with a ferocity that left the vampire bleeding out on the hardwood floor. Parc did not release until the vampire was dead.

He heard movement above him and saw Danny standing at the head of the stairs. He was wearing a pair of sweats. He came down slowly, and his eyes never left Parc. He was not panicking or afraid; his expression was analyzing and assessing the situation, which was his training.

"Parc?" He said in an even tone and continued to the base of the stairs, where he stepped over the body of the vampire and took several steps toward the black wolf, and then stopped. "Parc?" He repeated himself, and Parc shifted from the black wolf back to his human form.

"Yes, it's me." Parc remained still, not wanting to scare his mate, while Danny walked over to a closed and grabbed another pair of sweats and tossed them to Parc, who quickly put them on. They were a little short, but they served the purpose.
