They just stared at each other for several minutes, and then Danny spoke. "I have to call this in." Parc shook his head and took the phone from him.

"This isn't human business; this is paranormal, I will call." Parc kept his eyes on Danny as he called Cross and explained. Danny did not interrupt and took a couple steps drawing him closer to Parc. He was not afraid, but he wasn't sure what was happening.

"I killed the wolf and vampire Vic hired, and they're here at Danny's place. I need a cleanup crew. Vic got away." He paused and added. "Danny saw everything."

"It would be best if you both came here. You can better protect him here, and we'll help you explain to your mate what he saw." Cross advised. "I'll send a crew to his place, and please make sure he shares this with no one."

"He's processing," Parc told him. "Danny understands the importance of secrecy for the paranormal world. Our existence cannot become common knowledge anonymity is how we survive." He made that statement while staring directly into Danny's eyes so he would absorb the magnitude and significance of the secret he now possessed.

"I understand." He said and set his gun aside, and took his first deep cleansing breath. "You just opened up a whole new world for me." Danny moved closer and scanned Parc from head to toe.

“What are you looking for?”

“I don’t know.”

"We need to leave." Parc reached his hand out to him. "Come with me to the Club Cross is waiting for us, and you will be safe there. I promise I'll explain everything." Danny simply nodded, and Parc accepted that as a yes.

Parc went back upstairs and retrieved their clothing and shoes so Danny would be spared the vision of the dead wolf and all the blood. When Parc came back downstairs, Danny was standing by the door. They quickly dressed and were on their way in minutes.

Danny had not said a word since leaving his place, and Parc began to worry about trauma. "Are you okay, Danny?" He asked, glancing over at him briefly and then turning his gaze back to the road ahead.

"I'm not sure; I'll have to get back with you on that." Danny sounded calm and collected, but Parc knew he was anything but. Their emotions were connected now since the bond, and Parc could feel his scattered thoughts and his struggle to bring everything in line with his beliefs.

"I'm a wolf shifter; I'm the Beta of my Pack. I serve Cross Mercer, the Alpha of my Pack, and you are my mate." Parc decided to start from the beginning. "I recognized you the first night we met. Your scent called to me, and the pull to be near you was overwhelming." Danny turned to regard him but did not comment, so Parc proceeded.

"Shifters and vampires are gifted mates by Fate. They are predestined and are recognized by scent, sight, and taste. The connections are unmistakable. Some find their mates early in life, and others have to wait centuries to finally be united with their mate.”

“Centuries?”

"We have an extended lifespan, and as my mate, yours will also extend. It's how Fate works; I can’t explain it. You also have been given heightened awareness, sight, hearing, and intuition. It's all been amplified now that we have bonded.” Parc tried to answer with enough information to satisfy but did not get too far into the weeds about it. The understanding of the details will come slowly over time.

“You turned into a huge black wolf right before my eyes.” Danny blurted. “That other guy turned into a vicious gray wolf.”

"I'm a wolf shifter," Parc repeated himself.

“Cross?”

“Cross is a wolf shifter, and he is mated to Autry, a human."

“The other guy at the bar that night named Cade?”

"Cade is a cougar shifter, as is his brother Hofer. He was also there that night working the floor."

“The two large men at the doors?”

"Noa and Ames are both bear shifters but not related." Parc waited for more questions, but Danny fell silent. They pulled around the back of the Club and parked, and sat in silence for a while longer. Danny then turned in his seat and regarded Parc directly.

"I know what I witnessed, and even if I can't completely process it right now, I know that it was real. The man/wolf upstairs remained a wolf after he was dead; he did not shift back, and the other man, I could tell by the way his mouth and eyes contorted and the sudden length of his nails that he was not normal. I believe what I saw, but I haven't gotten comfortable with it yet." Danny was trying to explain himself and his reservations without denying what he saw and what he knew was real.

Parc nodded and reached out his hand to Danny, who took it and held it. "Take your time. It's a lot to process things that will make sense to you the longer you are among us."

“What did you mean by me being your mate, or rather what does that mean for me?” Parc repeated the perks and the sacredness of the union and what it does for a human to become one with a paranormal. He didn’t go into too much depth but answered the question without burdening his mate with too much information.

Danny touched the scar on his neck. “This is the mating mark?”

"Yes, all will know that you are the mate of the wolf, and to harm a mate carries a death sentence in my world. The bond makes you stronger and protects you

just as Fate designs. Humans would not survive in my world if it weren't for these protections that Fate inserts. It is meant to be; you and I were meant to be." Parc wanted so badly to pull Danny into his arms and just hold him, but there was a distance between them for the moment.
