Her lips spread into a smile. “How considerate of you, but you didn’t have to.”

“And yet, I wanted to.” He kissed her again. “When you’re ready, I’ll be in the kitchen. You can find breakfast there if you’d like some.”

Her heart palpitated. “Langston…” She touched his chiseled face, tracing her finger along his jawline. “It’s been so long since I’ve been with anyone,” she whispered, closing her eyes, and reopening them.

He squinted. “What? Don’t tell me you’re shy now?”

Her gaze warmed. “No…I guess I’m just a little in shock.”

Langston chuckled, brushing back her hair and tucking it behind her ear. “That’s understandable. You and I are both out of practice.”

“But I’m ready to change that,” he said, squeezing her hand. “I’d rather this not be our last time together.”

Warmth flooded her chest, and Lisa crept her head closer to his.

“Me too,” she whispered, smiling.

“Good.” Langston kissed her before getting up and walking away.

Lisa watched him go, her heart soaring higher and higher as every second passed. She was alive, with a fire burning in her chest that she hadn’t felt in a long time.

Lisa

Snap! Snap!

Lisa blinked and turned her attention to her mother, Carol Sharpton, who was on a treadmill next to her. At the gym uptown, rows of ellipticals and exercise bikes faced the mirror-lined walls. A weight-lifting area was situated on the side with various benches and dumbbells, and the neutral-colored walls had a plethora of motivational posters hung up to inspire and encourage those working out.

Their weekly sessions had turned into updates about their life happenings, which was always a welcomed conversation for Lisa. Unfortunately, today her mind wasn’t with her mom and the gym; it was with Langston and their fantastic night together a few days ago.

“I’m sorry, I must’ve tuned out,” Lisa said.

“You think?”

Lisa giggled and slowed down her treadmill.

“Since something is obviously holding your attention other than me, tell me what—or who—it is.”

Lisa’s cheeks flushed as she contemplated whether to share Langston with her mother. They weren’t a couple. They were just friends with benefits. When it came to parents, that wasn’t usually something they wanted for their child, so she pushed aside her guilt of not sharing and decided to say something else.

“It’s just work stuff, Mom. You know how it is.”

Her mother raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced, but let the subject drop.

Lisa’s thoughts returned to Langston. She couldn’t stop thinking about him. The way his strong hands had gripped her hips, the feel of his lips on her neck, the way he had made her feel—alive, free, and utterly desired. She wanted more of him and knew he wanted more of her, too.

Deep down, Lisa knew that if she allowed herself to go down this path, she wouldn’t be able to turn back. But despite all that, she wanted him now, in any way that he was willing to share himself with her.

“Doyou see how crazy you’ve made me, Lisa?”

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!

“How incredibly starved I am for you?”

She smiledto herself and increased the speed of the treadmill.

It was time to take a leap of faith. Besides, she could use some spontaneity and she felt safe with Langston, so right then and there, she decided she was all in. Whatever he wanted to do, or wherever he wanted to take their situation, she would go with him. Besides, if it was only sex he wanted, she definitely wouldn’t deny him after the pleasure her body experienced in his possession.
